Will of Lucy Dinkins I Mrs. Lucy Dinkins, widow, of the County of Madison and State of Mississippi being siezed and possessed of property in our own right and being of sound and disposing mind and memory and knowing the uncertainity of life do make and publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all others by me made or published. I commend my soul to the God who gave it and my body to the ground. I will and desire that all my just debts be paid and my property then divided as follows, to wit: Item - I give and beqeath to my grand daughter Margaret L. Dancey wife of William E. Dancey during her natural life a certain house in the town of Canton, Madison County more particularly described as a house made to me by Lewis G. and Lucinda Marghter, it being the same one copied by William E. Dancey, also one Negro boy Andy and at the death of my said grand daughter said house and lot and Negro to descend to the children of the said Margaret to them and their heirs forever. Item - I give and bequeath to my grand daughter Elizabeth A. Galloway wife of Charles B. Galloway have Negros to wit: George & Jane and Missy and increase during her natural life and at the death of my said grand daughter said negros and the future increase shall descend to the children of the said Elizabeth to them and their heirs forever. Item - I give and bequeath to my grand daughter Lucinda Whitman daughter of Louisa Malvina Barrington two negros, to wit: Lutitia & Sarah & their future increase, the said Latitia is to be held and remain in ___ for the use and benefit of Louisa Malvina Barrington wife of Richard Barrington until the said Lucinda shall arrive at full age and said Sarah to be held out for the use and benefit of the said Cinda until she arrives at age or marries. Item - I give and bequeath to my grand son John Dinkins son of Louisa D. Galloway one Negro boy to wit: Little William to him and his heirs forever. Item - I will and bequeath to my grand daughter ______ to wit: Mustha & his child and their future increase to her and her heirs forever. Item - I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Branch during her life the following named slaves, to wit: John, Telda, Fanny, Emily and __ and their future increase, at the death of my said daughter said Negros and their increase shall descend to and belong to the children of said Sarah. Item - I give and bequeath to my daughter Lucinda Slaughter during her natural life the following Negro slaves, to wit: Caroline, Bob, Guffy and their future increase during her natural life and at her death said Negros and their increase to descend to and belong to the children of the said Lucinda Slaughter. Item - I give and bequeath to the children of my grandson James Dinkins one Negro, to wit: Hilliand, said Negro to remain in possession of the James A. Dinkins during his natural life for the maintenance of said children and at his death to descend to and belong to the said children. Item - I will and direct that my executors expend three hundred dollars for the purchase of a Negro for my grand son Rufus Dinkins, son of Lewis Dinkins to be raised out of any money due me or that I may have on account at my death, which said Negro when so purchased shall remain in the possession and under the control of my son Lewis Dinkins until my said grandson shall arrive at full age or marries, and in event of the death of my said grand son without any lawful child then said Negro shall descend to and belong to his own brothers and sisters. Lucy Dinkins will page 2 Item - I will and bequeath to my grand daughter Leonora Slaughter daughter of Lucinda Slaughter, wife of Lewis G. Slaughter, one Negro slave to wit: Mary (she being Caroline's child) if my said grand daughter shall die before she marries or arrives at age, or should she die without any lawful child or children said Negro with her increase shall descend to and belong to the brothers and sisters of the said Leonora, said Negro is to remain in the possession and under the control of my said daughter Lucinda until my said grand daughter arrives at age or marries. Item - I give and bequeath to my grand son James Dinkins son of A. H. Dinkins a Negro boy by the name of Jim, in the event my said grandson should die before he arrives at age or marries or should die without having any lawful child or children said Negro shall descend to and belong to the brothers and sisters of my said grandson. Said Negro is to remain in possession of and under the control of the said A. H. Dinkins until my said grandson arrives at age or marries. Item - I give and bequeath to my daughter in law Cynthia D. Dinkins the wife of Alex H. Dinkins during her natural life if my said son survive her, if not then during her widowhood after his death the following real and personal property, to wit: all my real estate in the County of Madison and State of Mississippi about 1320 acres. ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ on part of which I now reside - all the provisions of every kind and character and in fact all my personal estate not otherwise bequeathed in this my last will and testament including the crop that may be in place at the time of my death whether growing or ____ together with the following named slaves, Sam, ___, Tom, Leonidas, Edmond, Bill, Mat Harriet, and Simy[?] and at the death of said daughter in law said Negros and other property herein mentioned shall descend to and belong to my son Alex H. Dinkins if he be living ___ said Cynthia shall hold the same during her widowhood and where said ____ ____ ___ then said property shall and will descend to and belong to the children of said Alex H. Dinkins and Cynthia his wife jointly begotten. Item - All money as debts due me that may be in hand at the time of my death not otherwise disposed of shall be equally divided into four shares, to wit Malvina Barrington, wife of Richard Barrington, Sarah J. Dinkins & John Dinkins all to recieve one share. Sarah Branch to recieve one share, Lucinda Slaughter wife of Lewis G. Slaughter to recieve one share and Alex H. Dinkins to recieve and his ___ last ___ in other page was marked a crop and others ____ before being signed. Item - I hereby nominate appoint and constitute my son Alex H. Dinkins my sole executor of this my last will and testament and request and desire that he shall not be required to give bond and security for the performance of his duties as executor, and further that he shall not charge or recieve any compensation for his services as such executor, but he shall be allowed all expenses incurred during his execution of this my last will and testament.
