Will of Milton P. Ewing In the name of God Amen. I M. P. Ewing late of the County of Madison and State of Mississippi do make and publish this my last will and testament being of sound mind and discriminating judgement . 1st Item. I will and bequeath unto my brother Jesse H. Ewing my negro women Patsy and Louisa her child & their increase. 2nd Item. I will and bequeath unto J. H. Ewing two notes of hand on Dr. P. H. Martin. The first is due October 15th, 1837 for twenty five hundred dollars. The second due October 15th 1838 for twenty seven and fifty dollars. And also a note for something upwards of eighteen hundred and __ dollars endorsed by Roman and Little and also my medical books in Madison County, Ms which amounts to eight or ten hundred dollars and on Wilton E. Crisp for one hundred dollars. And the said Jesse H. Ewing when he collects the above mentioned notes shall pay to Mrs. Margaret White one thousand dollars. Also to Mrs. Eliza Dunaway [?] one thousand dollars, also Susan Ewing one thousand. The above mentioned legatees are the sisters of the maker of this instrument. As before mentioned I will and bequeath unto Randle Milton Ewing third son of my oldest brother Andrew [?] one thousand dollars to be paid when the above notes are collected. I will and bequeath unto Jesse H. Ewing four hundred acres of land lying in Scot (sic) County Mississippi and situated in Township 8 Range 6 and Section 16 __, & I will and bequeath unto William Ewing two hundred and forty acres situated in Township same and Range and Section. The above mentioned Jesse H. Ewing is to pay all the debts of M. P. Ewing which amount to about eight hundred dollars. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & thirty seven. Signed 3-8-1837. M. P. Ewing Witness: Moses P. Crisp, Ezikiel Crisp State of Tennessee, Davidson County Court, October term 1837 A paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Milton P. Ewing __ was presented in court for probate & proven thus: Moses P. Crisp, one of the subscribing witnesses thereto being first sworn do depose and says that he became such in the presence of the said Milton P. Ewing and at his request and that he verily believes he was of sound and disposing mind and memory at the time he published the paper. Ordered that said paper writing be admitted to record as such will of the said Milton P. Ewing deceased. Whereupon Jesse H. Ewing in court have given bond in the sum of twenty thousand dollars with William S. Ewing and A. B. Ewing his sureties & qualified according to law. Ordered that he have letters of administration with the will annexed granted to him. State of Tennessee, Davidson County Court December Term 1837 A paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of Milton P. Ewing dec'd was produced in court for probate & proved thus: Ezikiel Crisp one of the subscribing witnesses thereto being first sworn deposed & says that he became such in the presence of the dec'd M. P. Ewing and at his request and in the presence of M. P. Crisp the other subscribing witness thereto & that he surely believes he was of sound & disposing mind & memory at the time of executing the same. State of Tennessee, Davidson County} I Smith Criddle Clerk of the County Court of said county do hereby certify that the foregoing will & probate thereof are truly copied from the files and minutes of my office.
