Two men named McCall and Scott, who had been working together for Neil Campbell and others, in the neighborhood of Chulahoma, Miss., were returning from this city to that place on foot, and getting tired, sat down by the road-side to rest. McCall fell asleep after sitting there a few moments, and was awakened by a violent blow across the forehead with a stick in the hands of Scott, which was followed by others, until finally the stick was abandoned, and a knife used in its stead, making a serious gash across his throat. McCall had presence of mind enough to lay still and feign death, knowing his companion had too much the advantage of him, which had the desired effect, and Scott proceeded to rob him of the money he had, about two dollars, dragged him from the road and left him for dead. Mr. McCall recovered sufficiently to proceed to the house of Mr. Newell Williams, where his wounds were dressed and he was kindly cared for. He was brought to the hospital yesterday, where he now lies. The two had some $200 due them in the neighborhood of Chulahoma, and it is supposed Scott has gone there to collect that money. Scott is about 5 feet 4 1/2 inches high, with light hair, disposed to curl, of this visage and about forty-three years of age. He had on the day the deed was committed a light colored flax coat, striped shirt and light pants; he also took with him a round top hat belonging to McCall. He had other clothes with him at the time, and it is possible he may have changed his suit.
