Mr. Starks-- The death of the Rev. S. G. Starks, which had been reported, proves to be too true. He died at Iuka, Tishomingo county, Miss., on the 7th inst. Mr. S., at the time of his death, was President of the Faculty of the State Female College of Tennessee, located near Memphis. A meeting of the Board of Trustees was held, and resolutions passed expressive of the deep regret felt at his death. For a number of years Mr. Starks has presided over different institutions for female education, and the number of accomplished young ladies in Southern society, who received their education under his supervision, fully attest how well his duty was discharged. He was a member of the Mississippi Conference of the M. E. Church South, and was noted for his exemplary christian life. His death, coming on him in the prime of life, and the full flower of his usefullness, falls heavily upon the great community of which he was a pillar and ornament. Vicksburg Whig (Vicksburg, MS) Wed Oct 12, 1859 We see announced in some of the papers, the death of the Rev. S. G. Starks, "former principal of a flourishing female school at Holly Springs." Mr. S. was recently principal of a school of high class near Memphis. As our Memphis exchanges have made no mention of his death, we trust it pay prove to be incorrect.
