Visitation is 5 to 9 tonight at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb and will continue at 10 a.m. Saturday until services at 2 p.m. at Hartman chapel. Bro. Hugh Lambert will officiate, and burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Summit. Mrs. Brister was born Aug. 18, 1934, in Summit to Albert S. Van Norman and Fanny Gertrude Van Norman. She was a retired certified nurse assistant and worked for McComb Extended Care for more than 23 years. Her family said she was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, confidante and friend. They said she always stood strong for things she believed in and welcomed all who entered her life as a friend. She leaves behind a multitude of friends — a legacy anyone would hope for, her family said. Mrs. Brister was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Willie Marcus Brister; and three brothers, Albert Van Norman Jr., Hebert Van Norman and Dan Van Norman. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Marcus W. and Lorna Brister of Denham Springs, La., David B. and Lauren Brister of Summit and Jeff K. and Charlene Brister of Brookhaven; two daughters, Patricia D. Hill and husband Curtis of Baton Rouge, La., and Jo Anna Laird of Summit; five brothers, James, Alvin, Jerry, Richard and Frank Van Norman; four sisters, Mary Louise Dixon, Katie Manuel, Linda Spance and Diane Brewer; 14 grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. Pallbearers will be John Brister, Eric Brister, Johnny Dispensire, Tommy Dispensire, Jeffrey Brister Jr., Steve Van Norman and Marc Brister. Honorary pallbearers are Timmy and Kevin Van Norman.
