Johnston Sr., 85, of Bogue Chitto, died Dec. 21,2006, at his residence, after a long illness. Visitation is 5 to 8 tonight at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb and continues 10 a.m. Saturday at Adams United Methodist Church in the Auburn community until services there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Kenny Hart will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Johnston was born Aug. 26, 1921, in Smithdale, to J.A. and Maggie Ella Dunn Johnston. He was a retired maintenance welder with Keizer Aluminum and was a member of Adams United Methodist Church. He also was a member of John Quitman Masonic Lodge of Auburn. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during World War II. He received several medals for his service, during which he participated in more than52 combat missions. Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Imelda May Johnston; and three brothers, Winferd, Howard and Millard Johnston. Survivors include a son, Melvin A. Johnston Jr. and his wife Scoopie of Bonita, La.; two grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
