OBITUARIES FOR PONTOTOC COUNTY, MS MRS. T.T. CLARK DIES AT CHERRRY CREEK One of County's Oldest and Most Beloved Women died at Cherry Creek Home Oct. 29 Following a several days illness she quietly breathed her last, Wednesday afternoon, October 29, 1947 about five o'clock. For the past fifteen years, she had been a semi-invalid, her suffering borne with Christian fortitude. She never lost interest, until the very last, in everything around her and was always kindly compassionate, and sympathetic wherever needed. For this, and other noble characteristics made for her a place in the hearts of her every aquaintance. The funeral held in the Cherry Creek church, where she long had worshipped, occurred Thursday afternoon, at four o'clock, conducted by her pastor, Dr.Tyler of Blue Mountain. He selected for his Scripture reading the following passages: Matthew 25:30-34, Proverbs 31:10-31, and Luke 2:36-39 comparing the sleeper to Anna of old. The pall bearers were her nephews, Charlie Caldwell and Fred Caldwell of Tupelo, Lewis Caldwell, of New Albany, Norton Powell, of Sherman, Julius Caldwell, of Ecru, and Broadus Caldwell, of Cherry Creek. The frail, gentle little body was tenderly laid in the church cemetary near her husband and others of her family, among whom sleeps her lovely daughter, Sadie, who preceded the mother in October, 1946-just one year ago. Margaret Frances Caldwell, as was her maiden name, was born October 10, 1856, and had therefore, only twenty days previous to her death, celebrated her ninety-first birthday. Her parents, John Jones Caldwell and Moriah Brittian Caldwell came from South Carolina in the 1830's, and established a home on the old Tuscumbia road in Pontotoc county in what is known as the Center Hill community. "Fannie," as the subject of this sketch was called, was one of the youngest of nine children, seven brothers and one sister, who continued to reside in this locality until reaching full maturity, a highly esteemed family and recognized as influential and leading citizens, as are the present generation still regarded. When fifteen years of age, she became a Christian and united with the Baptist church at Poplar Springs, her letter afterward removed to Cherry Creek. An active member for more than seventy five years, consistent, earnest, devout, she loved and practiced her religion every day of her life - - "trusting in His promises." She was married in 1893 to Mr. Tilson Clark, and after twenty-five years spent happily together, he was claimed by death in February, 1918. Five children were born to this union, three daughters and two sons, the eldest dying when only a few months old. Surviving are a daughter, Miss Birdie Lou Clark, T.T. Clark and C.C. Clark, and seven grandchildren, all of Cherry Creek. The last paragraph is a bit unclear but it was a daughter who died as an infant. There are also some penciled in changes on my clipping, Center Hill was changed to Oak Hill and her marriage date was changed from 1893 to 1891.The Pontotoc county marriage records confirm 1891 as the correct year.
