March 30, 1903 Famous Soldier and Poet Will Deliver Lectures. Jackson, Miss., March 23. -- Major Lamar Fontaine, the most picturesque character in Mississippi, soldier, duellist, explorer, scientist, poet and rifle shot expert, has embarked on a lecture tour which promises to attract much attention. This remarkable man, although now well advanced in years, and seared and scarred with a hundred bullet wounds, minus a leg lost int he civil war, and having endured more hardships and hair-breadth experiences than generally fall to the lot of a score of them, is still hale and vigorous, and possessed with all the energy and ingenuity that has made him famous over two continents.
