March 30, 1903 Famous Men to See Indiana Monument Unveiled. Jackson, Miss., March 23.--A large assembly will gather on the historic battlefield of Shiloh on the 6th and 7th of April to witness the dedication of a state monument to the memory of the Indiana regiments who took part in that celebrated engagement of the civil war. The Indiana monument and regimental memorial shafts have been erected at a cost of $40,000, the amount being appropriated by the legislature of that state, and some of the most distinguished officials, citizens and soldiers of the state will be present to participate in the ceremonies. Memphis will send a large delegation, headed by Hon. Josiah Patterson, chairman of the Shiloh park commission, and General John B. Gordon, Governor Frazier, of Tennessee, the governors of Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia, and their military staffs, General Simon Buckner, of Kentucky; General James B. Longstreet, General Lew Wallace, Governor Durbin, of Indiana; Secretary of War Root, United States Senators Beveridge and Fairbanks, and many senators and representatives from other states will be present.
