Reid rreid21@cox.net June 10, 2004, 10:38 pm S1/2 NE1/4 Sec. 11 T8N R7E, Scott Co., MS Written: June 13 1842 JB White Tax Collector This Indenture made and entered into this 13th day of To June 1842 by and between JB White Tax Collector of the Alfred Eastland County of Scott in the State of Mississippi of the one part and Alfred Eastland of the other part – Witnesseth, That whereas the assessment roll of Taxes assessed and made out by the assessor for taxes for said County for the year 1841 was duly commissioned to the said JB White, Tax Collector for said county for the year 1842, to be by him collected of and from the persons and property therein set down in said assessment roll agreeable to the law in such case made and provided; And whereas the following described land to wit; The South half of the north East quarter of Section number eleven Township number eight, Range Number seven East were set down in said assessment roll and assessed as the property of one Nicholas C Denley a non resident of said State with the sum of Eight cents for said year 1841 and the said JB White not having able to find personal property of the said Nicholas C Denley in said County from which to levy said Tax and said Tax remaining unpaid did on the second Monday of June AD 1842 between the hours of eleven o’clock A.M. and Three o’clock P.M at the door of the Court house in said County having previously given three months public notice of the time and place of such sale by advertisement published weekly in the Mississippi Intelligencer a newspaper printed in Brandon, in the County of Rankin in said State, that being the nearest paper thereto and there being no newspaper printed in said County of Scott, by and posting three advertisements in three public places in said County of Scott and one of which advertisements was posted up on the door of the court house in said County of Scott specifying the time and place of sale the name of the person as whose property was taxed the name of the person to whom it was granted; the amount of tax due thereon; and a description of said land as designated on the original map of survey proceed to sell said lands, or so much thereof as would pay the said Tax levied thereon for the year 1841 and all costs and charges at public auction for cash and the said JB White then and there put up as Lot No. One the S1/2 NE1/4 Sec 11 Township 8 Range 7 East and the said Alfred Eastland then and there being present did bid therefore the sum of Thirty three dollars 9/100 and the said White then and there struck off and knocked down said land described as lot No One, to the said Alfred Eastland at the sum of Thirty three dollars 9/100 he being the highest and best bidder therefore. Now therefore in consideration of the sum of Thirty three dollars 9/100 paid to the said JB White, by the said Alfred Eastland the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, and by virtue of said sale and purchase and of the Law in such case made and provided the said J.B. White as Tax Collector of the aforesaid County of Scott hath bargained, sold and conveyed and doth by these presents bargain, sell and convey the said Lot No. 1 to the said Alfred Eastland to have and to hold the same to his heirs, executors administrators and assigns forever; Subject however to be redeemed in manner and form prescribed by the Statute in such case made and provided.
