Chambers To Thomas M Pettey This Indenture made and entered into this fourth day of September in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and thirty eight between James J. Chambers of the county of Scott and State of Mississippi of the first part and Thomas M. Pettey of the same county and state of the second part – Witnesseth that the said party of first part for and in consideration of the sum of Nine hundred and ninety one dollars & eighty seven and a half cents, to him in hand paid by the said party of the second part at and before the signing sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained sold conveyed and confirmed & by these presents doth grant bargain sell convey and confirm unto the said party of the second part and his heirs and assigns forever the following tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the County of Scott and State of Mississippi being the East half of the North west quarter of Section number Eighteen in township Number Seven of Range Number eight East containing seventy nine 82/100 acres more or less. Also a certain piece or parcel or fraction of lands being a fractional part of the west half of the North East quarter of the above named section, Township and Range described as follows commencing at the half mile stake at the North west corner of said tract or parcel of land and running due East twenty rods, to a stake, thence thirty two rods due south to a stake, thence twenty rods due west to a stake thence due north to the beginning corner, containing four acres – be the same more or less – To have and to hold the above described tracts or parcels of land together with all and singular the improvements, privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining unto the said party of the second part and his heirs and assigns forever. And the party of the first part for himself his heirs executors and administrators doth covenant promise and agree to and with the party of the second part, his heirs and assigns the aforesaid tract of land and premises against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whomsoever either at law or in equity unto the party of the second part and his heirs and assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In testimony whereof the party of the first part hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and date first above written James J. Chambers The State of Mississippi Scott County Personally appeared before me the undersigned Justice of the Peace in and for the said County, James J. Chambers who acknowledged that he signed sealed and delivered the foregoing Deed as his act and Deed and for the purpose therein contained or expressed – on the day and year above named.
