This Indenture made and entered into this 4th day of January AD 1858, between Thos M Pettey of the first part and Jas H Stribling County Treasurer of Scott County and his successors in Office of the second part, Witnesseth; That the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars loaned to the said party of the first part by the Board of Police of Scott County, State of Mississippi being a portion of the school funds of said County loaned to the said party of the first part in accordance with the acts of the Legislature of said State of Mississippi made and provided. Now, this Indenture witnesseth, that the said party of the first part, for and in consideration of the said sum of money loaned as aforesaid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, and the letter to secure the payment thereof does hereby give grant, bargain, sell and convey unto the said Jas H Stribling County Treasurer as aforesaid and his successors in Office, the following Lands, situate in said County of Scott, to wit: SW1/4 of Section 18 Township 7 Range 8 East containing one hundred & sixty acres more or less, together with all the privileges and appurtenances to the said land in any wise belonging or appertaining to have and to hold the said land to the only proper use and benefit of the said party of the second part.
