Amanda Vanderhurst This Indenture made and entered into this 13th day of June 1842 by and between JB White Tax Collector of the County of Scott in the State of Mississippi of the one part and Emma A Vanderhurst of the other part _ Witnesseth; that whereas the assessment roll of Taxes assessed and made out by the assessor for taxes for said County for the year 1841 was duly committed to the said JB White Tax Collector for said County for the year 1842 to be by collected of and from the persons and property therein set down in said assessment roll agreeable to the law in such case made and provided and whereas the following described lands, to wit; The East half of section number twenty seven Township number Eight Range number six East were set down in said assessment roll and assessed as the property of one Michael Vanderhurst a nonresident of said State with the sum of Two dollars and 2/100 for said year 1841, and the said JB White not having been able to find personal property of the said Michael Vanderhurst in said County from which to levy said Tax, and said Tax remaining unpaid did on the second Monday in June AD 1842, between the hours of eleven oclock A.M. and three o’clock P.M. at the door of the Court house in said County, having previously given three months public notice of the time and place of such sale, by advertisement published weekly in the Mississippi Intelligencer a newspaper printed in Brandon in the County of Rankin in said State, that being the nearest paper thereto and there being no newspaper printed in the said County of Scott by and posting up three advertisements in three public places in said County of Scott, and one of which advertisements was posted up on the door of the Court house in said County of Scott, specifying the time and place of sale, the name of the person as whose property it was taxed; the name of the person to whom it was granted; the amount of tax due thereon; and description of said land as designated on the original map of survey proceed to sell said lands, or so much thereof as would pay the said Tax levied thereon for the year 1841, and all costs and charges at public auction for cash, and the said JB White, then and there put up as Lot one the E1/2 NE1/43 Sec 27, Township 8, Range 6 East and the said Emma A. Vanderhurst then and there being present did bid therefore the sum of eight dollars 80/100 and the said White then and there struck off and knocked down said land described as Lot No. one to the said Emma A Vanderhurst at the sum of eight dollars 80/100 she being the highest and best bidder therefore And the said Lot No. one not selling for a sum sufficient to pay said Taxes and all costs and charges the said White then and there continued to sell the following lots to wit; Lot No 2 W1/2 NE1/4 Sec 27 T.8 R.6E $8.80 Lot No 3 E1/2 SE1/4 Sec 27 T.8 R 6E $8.80 Lot No 4 W1/2 SE1/4 Sec 27 T.8 R 6E $8.79 And for which the said Emma Vanderhurst bid the several sums set against said lots, and which were better and higher bids for said lots than made by an other person wherefore the said JB White struck off and knocked down said several Lots at the aforesaid sums set against them to the said Emma A Vanderhurst being the highest and best bidder therefore Now therefore in consideration of the sum of Thirty five dollars 19/00 paid to the said JB White by the said Emma A Vanderhurst the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and by virtue of said sale and purchase and of the law in such case made and provided, The said JB White as Tax Collector of the aforesaid County of Scott, hath bargained, sold and conveyed and doth by these presents bargain sell and convey the said several parcels of land contained in the aforesaid several lots numbered from one to four inclusive to the said Emma A Vanderhurst to have and to hold the same to her heirs executors administrators and assigns forever. Subject however to be redeemed in manner and form prescribed by the statute in such case made and provided. In witness whereof the said JB White as Tax Collector aforesaid hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written. Signed sealed and delivered In presence of J B White T.C.
