This Indenture made and entered into this twenty seventh day of April in the 
year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty three by and Thomas M 
Pettey and Louisa W Pettey his wife of the first part and Alfred Eastland of 
the second part all of the County of Scott and State of Mississippi – 
Witnesseth – That the said Louisa W Pettey (being possessed in her own right of 
the land herein after described) by and with the advice and consent of her 
husband Thomas M Pettey who is also a party to these presents for an in 
consideration of the sum of Six hundred and twenty dollars to them, the said 
Louisa W Pettey and Thomas M Pettey parties of the first part, in hand paid the 
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and the said party of the second part 
his heirs executors and administrators forever discharged therefrom hath 
granted bargained sold, aliened released, conveyed and confirmed, and do hereby 
these presents grant bargain sell alien release convey and confirm unto the 
said party of the second part, and to heirs and assigns forever all the right, 
title, claim and interest in and to the following, tracts, pieces or parcels of 
land lying and being situate in the County of Scott in the State of Mississippi 
and known and described as the East half of the North West quarter of Section 
number eighteen in Township Number seven of Range Number Eight East containing 
Seventy Nine 80/100 acres more or less.  Also a certain piece, parcel or 
fraction of land, being a fractional part of the West half of the North East 
quarter of the above named section Township and Range described as follows, to 
wit; commencing at the half mile stake at the North West corner of said quarter 
Section and running due East twenty rods to a stake, thence thirty two rods 
South to a Stake, thence twenty rods due West to a Stake, thence thirty two 
rods due North to the beginning corner containing four acres of land be the 
same more or less – together with all and singular the rights and interests, 
hereditaments privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise 
appertaining.  To have and to hold the same and every part and parcel thereof 
unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever – and the 
said parties of the first part for themselves, their heirs, executors and 
administrators, unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns, 
the title to the above described land and premises, against the claim or claims 
of all and every person and persons whomsoever claiming or to claim the same or 
any part or parcel thereof doth by these presents warrant and will forever 
defend both at law and in equity – In witness whereof the said parties of the 
first part have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and 
year first above written
