Ritchey Cemetery in located in northeastern Sharkey
County near the Sunflower River. It can be reached by
taking highway 434 east from its intersection with
highway 61 to the town of Delta City. [At least where
the town of Delta City used to be].  When you get to the
intersection where the Post Office is located turn
right. You will go about 100 yards and bear left on the
paved road.  From the intersection in Delta City it is
4.6 miles to Ritchey Cemetery.  It is located on the
left of the road.  There is a dirt road that intersects
and you take it to reach the cemetery.  The cemetery is
surrounded by a wire fence. It had been very overgrown,
but a fire had recently burned all the underbrush and
trees when I was there


The earliest recorded grave is 1920 and the most recent
one is 1987. The cemetery is for the Cook family. Oral
tradition has it that many of the Cook family members
were buried there, but I could only find six tombstones.
The enclosed area is much larger than that and there are
clearly a number of unmarked graves.

The following listing was compiled by the author in
October 2000.    The inscriptions are taken from the
tombstones.  Relationships were taken from the
tombstones where they were available. Some additional
information was added based on public records.
