Mills, 73, were held Sunday at the Harmony Baptist Church. Mr. Mills died Friday, May 1, at the Tippah County Hospital. He was a member of Harper Road Christian Church and chief of police at Walnut. He was a member of the Blue Mountain Masonic Lodge and a Scottish Rite, 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Mississippi Peace Officers Association and formerly deputy sheriff and the police chief of Ripley. He was a former town marshall in Blue Mountain and Ripley. He was also a World War II veteran. Burial was in the church cemetery with Masonic graveside services. Officiating ministers were the Rev. Jimmy Russell and the Rev. Ben Parmen. Coleman East Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Pearl White Mills of Walnut; one daughter, Miss Genell Mills of Corinth; two sons, Billy E. Mills and the Rev. Charles Mills, both of Corinth; three sisters, Mrs. Edith Wooley of Ripley, Mrs. Ruby Patterson and Mrs. Dorothy Holland, both of Corinth; 8 brothers, Earl Mills of Jackson, Tenn., Jim Mills of Medon, Tenn., Reid Mills, J.C. Mills, John Rufus Mills, Lee Edward Mills, and Hillie Mills, all of Corinth, and Russell Mills of Sheffield, Alabama; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
