Giles Mrs. Martha Lavada Giles, formerly of this county, but residing in Jackson for a number of years, dies in a hospital in that city Saturday morning. She was 68. Mrs. Giles was a native of this county, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Gandy, prominent citizens of their day. Her husband, J. S. Giles passed away in 1940. While here she was a member of the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church and resided in the Denham community. She leaves six sons, E. L. Giles and J. H. Giles, both of the Denham community, J. S. Giles Jr. of Waynesboro, James Stanton Giles of Clinton, Miss., T. G. Giles of Birmingham, Ala., and B. R. Giles of Georgetown, La.; three daughters, Mrs. Frank Abernathy of Arlington, Va., Mrs, Estes Yarber of Heidelberg, Miss., and Mrs. E. W. Varnall of Biloxi, Miss.; 22 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren; a brother, H. C. Gandy of Wayne County; and two sisters, Mrs. Willie Jones of Wayne County and Mrs. D. C. Taylor of Waynesboro. Funeral services were held for her Monday afternoon at 3:30 from the Isney, Ala. Baptist Church with Rev. Burnell Phillips, pastor of the Waynesboro Methodist circuit in charge, assisted by the Revs. Walker, pastor of the Isney Baptist Church and J. H. Carlisle of the Assemby of God. Interment was in the Isney cemetery, Freeman directing. Additional Comments: Martha was born 12-22-1893.
