A native of Wilkinson County, Miss., she had moved to Newton from Groves, Texas in 1953. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, George Cook and parents, John Howard and Elaine Hatfield and adopted parents, Fred and Violet Shirley. She was a retired medical transcriptionist and Civil Service secretary. Survivors include her daughters, Annie Cook of Woodville, TX and Rebecca Cook Dougharty of Jasper, TX; sons, George Cook, III of Princeton, TX and Kevin Cook of Newton, TX; brother, Howard Hatfield of Temple, TX; sisters, Elaine Thompson of Greensburg, LA and Shirley McCann of Cleveland, TX. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Newton, TX at 11 a.m. with visitation starting at 9 a.m. Burial will be held at the Rock Hill Cemetery near Brownsboro, TX at 4:30 p.m. Additional Comments: Mona was the daughter of the late John Howard and Elaine Shirley Hatfield of Wilkinson County, Miss.
