I wrote you and Garrett both in what manner to amortize[?] the balance of the Moore debt. Ben Little had in his hands near $1000 belonging to me, money which he had collected of mine. This I instructed Garrett how to get_ and I said to both of you that if it could not be paid without to sell the two neg =roes I had reserved in Leake _ to wit_ Mack and Jenny which Given and King had both promised to save for me_ the balance they were to have but I am willing to give up any thing to meet that debt beca =use you and Garrett are behind on it. I should have come over to the spring ___(loust?) if I could possibly have raised the means_ but I am actually with =out one dollar in the world_ have every thing I eat to buy, and all produce and groceries are here cash (entrities/?). I have never in the course of my life had starvation to stare me in the face so fully as since I have been here. Dewitt took every dollar of the proceeds of my crop last year, and left me without any means to go upon. I think however, I shall get along without actually starving_ I have a little corn? and got a __ 50 fee in bacon a short time since_ this helped mightily.
