If I can stave along here this year, I can do well_ I have decidedly the prettiest crop in the neighborhood, and am getting into a very fine practice at the law. __ court has just adjourned_ I was engaged in cases where the fees will turn out $5000_ two of $1000 each, and a good many others_ but no money. I made a speech in a case where four men of high standing were upon trial for their lives, and I think any person who was in the country will tell you that I will not suffer in comparison with all the great men of the country, and there were nine engaged in the cause. There will be a great many very hedry land suits in a short time here, and I have no doubt of getting at least liberal share of them. They are now beginning_ three have been commenced in this country_ I am engaged in two of them and think I will be in the third. I have no doubt of being able to get mo -re business than I can do. I want you to come over here this spring_ it is really a splendid country_ at least equal to the accounts you have had of it. You said to me if I could get a better place than the one you are now on you would bring the hands here. This I can do_ I can get a half league of land (a league if you prefer it) two thirds of which will yield 2000 lbs of cotton to the acre on an average. In an elevated_ beautiful, healthy country finely watered, and fine range for all kinds of stock. Transcription, Page 3: If you think proper to come_ I will give you __ half league for the Tolls land, or you may dispose of that and go into the purchase of this with me as you please. The titles shall be made to suit you, and you may have the exclusive contractual[?] of it, and live upon it if you think proper to move here. If you intend to come at all, you had better come this year, for good lands are going up ___ with a rush, in this country_ James Moore from Madisonville __ gave $11- an acre for lands in this country. Come over and exa mine, and if you like I will, as soon as I lay by my crop, go to be ____ cabbins ___ so that you will have a home when you come, and can make a good crop the first year. I will have corn some hay, e____e to start upon, so that you would not have to en___ [encounter?] the difficulties I have. I think it probable you ___ get a compromise out of my Natchis friends, and get the negroes back and my New Orleans debt also for the land_ as they once offered $25 per acre for it_ however this is a matter I care nothing about, if you could make any other advantageous dispositions of the land. You could come over here and return in a month_ and __ could then determine what was best to be done. Write me __- =tis to this place, and let me know what disposition you made of Randal, and where Polly is, and whether you can come over, and everything else that is interesting.
