JUL 20 Capt Jnothn Lamb, Benton, Mip [Mississippi] State of Mississippi To any Yazoo County lawfull State of Mississippi State Transcription: San Augustine Texas July 7th 1840 Dear Lamb. I have written you so often without getting any reply that I am growing weary_ why do you not write_ I have never heard a word from you except by Dr King_ and that amounts to nothing. I have been expecting that you would either come over to see the country _ or write that you did not intend to come. I have been holding a place in reserve for for, [sic] a long time_ and I know if you were to see it you you [sic] would move to it. It is in one of the handsom =est parts of the whole country_ a most beautiful elevation of about 200 acres of remarkably rich upland_ and 500 or 600 of bottom land as rich as the banks of the Mississippi_ with not an acre of swamp within ten miles of it_ A handsome small stream of clean running water that never fails, pop [?] =ing directly thro [sic] it_ a first rate spring_ which affords plenty of water at all seasons of the year_ within 60 or 80 yards of a most beautiful building site_ which is now covered (I saw it two days since) with grapes as large as the ordinary English grape in your Ten gardens; and taken altogether it is one of the most desirable places you have ever seen in any country. Transcription, Page 2: I can purchase it upon good terms, and if you will agree to come here I will do so. I have no hesitation in saying that you can make one third more cotton, upon an average here than you now make where you are_ and your hands would enjoy uninterrupted health. I have cotton now opening_ and corn plenty have for horses to eat, to grate __. I wrote you lately about Polly. If she has some ____ I want you to get her_ if not please get an order from Garrett to get her at Paris . I have arranged the debt and it is either paid already or will be immediately by George[?] Lynch_ so that there is no further pretext for holding her. Write me soon and let me know what you intend doing. If Tolls would come here he could make $1000 a year by teaching school_ and I would be very glad for him to come. G.W.
