Raymond Stands Over Bull Verlynn Stands Over Bull PRYOR - Verlynn, X'axxowa, "Spotted Eagle," 31, and her father, Raymond, Isvaau'xbishkaatash, "Has a small buckskin," 55, of Pryor, died of injuries sustained in a two-car accident March 14, 1998, near Billings. Verlynn was born Dec. 7, 1966, in Crow Agency, a daughter of Raymond and Patricia White Stands Over Bull. She grew up and attended schools in Pryor, graduating from Plenty Coups High School in 1986. She was a homemaker who enjoyed her church, beading and sewing. Verlynn was a self-taught seamstress, who often made outfits for hand game teams. She was a member of the Baptist Church, Ties the Bundle Clan, and was a Whistling Water Child. Raymond was born April 13, 1942, in Pryor, a son of Jacob and Lena Lion Shows Stands Over Bull. He grew up and attended schools in Pryor. At the age of four, he became a deaf-mute as a result of illness and injury. Although he suffered an impairment, he became fluent in sign language and inspired the people of Pryor to learn the art of sign language. During his younger years, he jockeyed Thoroughbred and Quarter horses in races throughout the Western United States. He worked for the Western Sugar Company for several years, but spent the majority of his time as a volunteer at Plenty Coups High School. He was the Pryor District committeeman for the Crow Tribe, an avid hand games player and champion guesser. He was a Traditional Crow man, who enjoyed arrow throwing and pow-wows and was known for his beading skills. Raymond took pleasure in watching his children, grandchildren and the youth of Pryor participate in school activities. Raymond was a member of the Baptist Church, Native American Church, Whistling Water Clan and was a Piegan Child. Survivors for Verlynn and Raymond include Patricia, wife and mother; three daughters and sisters, Roberta (Alfred) Walks of Helena, Cecelia Stands Over Bull of Pryor and Raylene (Jim) Kelly of Texas; three adopted daughters and sisters, Keri Whiteman of Pryor, Dora Jefferson of Hardin and Pamela Little Light of Crow Agency; one son and brother, Raymond Scott Stands Over Bull of Pryor; one adopted son and brother, Ben Bright Wings Jr. of Lodge Grass; two sisters, Madeline Not Afraid and Laura (Tyrone) Rides the Horse of Pryor; one adopted sister, Patricia Cloud of Billings; one brother and adopted parents, Heywood (Mary Lou) Big Day Sr., of Pryor; one adopted brother, Milton Spotted Bear Sr., of Oklahoma; three grandsons, whom Raymond raised, Conrad Stands, Jerome and Bruce Big Hail Jr.; two nephews, whom Verlynn raised, Jerome Big Hail and Dante Stands Over Bull; her grandmother, Elizabeth Smart Enemy of Pryor; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Joint funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday in the Pryor Plenty Coups High School Gymnasium. Interment will follow in the Pryor Camp Cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin is entrusted with the arrangements.
