Duval, one of the pioneers of Montana during the past 35 years, dropped dead at about 1 o'clock to-day in the rear of the Burrell grocery store while loading a sack of oats into a delivery wagon. Help arrived at once after Mr. Duval had fallen, but he was dead and beyond assistance. Death undoubtedly resulted from heart failure. Duval had lived in Montana since the early times and had a host of friends among the old-timers. During the time that he lived in the state he took part in the stirring times and went up and down often on fortune's wheel. At the time of his death he was engaged as delivery clerk. He was 65 years of age and came from Maryland. He was one of the principals in the famous Cypress hills massacre which occured 28 years ago, resulting in the death of 147 Cree Indianas, and almost causing a serious international complication between Canada and the United States. There were nine other white men in the battle with Duval and several of them yet live in Northern Montana. Mr. Duval leaves a widow and five children. They are Frank about 21 years old; Nettie, aged about 16 years, who attends the high school in the city; Donna, another girl, about 14 years old; a boy 7 years old and a little baby boy about 2 years old. Another child, Veitch, aged 12 years was killed about a month ago in the front yard of the family residence at No. 612 Fifth street south, by a horse falling on him while he was endeavoring to drive out some horses.
