J. McClelland, complained to his wife of server pains. He has been suffering from Bright's disease for several years and she at once telephoned for a physician. On returning she found him dead. He was one of the first settlers of Great Falls, engaging in the insurance business under the firm name of Banks, Atkinson and McClelland in 1887. In 1889 he was elected country treasurer on the Republican ticket, filling the office four successive terms. Upon his retirement he again engaged in the inusrance business, suceeding Weston Fullerton. This fall he was a candidate for the nomination for treasurer, but was defeated. He has always been prominent in Republican politics of northern Montana, was high in Masonic orders and a member of the Odd Fellows, Elks and Workmen. He was born in Pennsylvania, was 49 years old and leaves a wife and two children.
