Skelton, 74 year old member of a pioneer Montana family and a longtime member of the Montana Cowboys' Association, will be from T. F. O'Conner Co. Saturday morning at 9:30 and at St. Ann's Cathedral at 9:45 when Requiem Mass will be offered. Burial will be in the family plot, Highland Cemetery, Rosary will be this evening at 7 at O'Conners. At the time of her death, he was the oldest living bartender in the Great Falls Bartenders Union and a life member of the MCA. He drove stage coaches between Stanford and Great Falls before the arrival of trains. Skelton was born March 18, 1888 at Stanford the son of pioneer Judith Basin residents, Mr. And Mrs. William Skelton. His father and mother homesteaded two miles east of the present town of Stanford in 1880 and were the first settlers on Wolf Creek. William Skelton was the first settler in that part of the country and his wife was the only woman resident for many miles. The elder Skelton had been and hunter, trapper, and prospector in the Montana Territory prior to his marriage. Charles M. Russell and Father DeSmet, the pioneer priest, were early friends of the Skeltons. J. L. Skelton City's Oldest Bartender Dies Sept. 19, 1962 Funeral services are pending at T. F. O'Conner Co. For John Louis Skelton, 74, 1107 5th Ave A, who died Wednesday night at a local hospital. At the time of his death Skelton was the oldest living bartender in the Great Falls Bartenders Union and also was a life member of the Montana Cowboys' Association. He was born May 15th, 1888, at Stanford, the son of pioneer Judith Basin residents MR. And Mrs. William Skelton. Survivors include the widow, Sadie, Great Falls; sons John of Great Falls and William of White Sulphur Springs; sisters,. Mrs. Martha Coughlin of Great Falls and Mrs. Nina Hogan and Mrs. Lee Sweeney, both of Helena; brothers Carl of Geyser and Bay of Stanford; six grandchildren and three great-gradchildren.
