Casteel Oregorian Newspaper-Washington A graveside service will be held at 11 a. m Wednesday in Park Hill Cemetery for Isabel V. Casteel, who died Sunday in a Vancouver hospital from causes related to age. She was 91. Mrs. Casteel, who was born Nov 17, 1901, in Gaylord, Minnesota, had been a resident of Clark County since 1935. She taught school in Roy, Mont. before moving to the Vancouver area Mrs. Casteel's husband, George, died in 1967 Survivors include her sons, Edwin, Alvin "Swede" and Leslie "Skip" all of Vancouver, and Charles of Auburn, three daughters. Dorothy Hager and Anabel Terpenning, both of Vancouver; and Janice Balcom of Portland, 26 grandchildren 45 great-grandchildren: and 10 great-great grandchildren After her teaching career, Mrs. Casteel worked at the Washington Co-op. the Del Monte canneries and the Vancouver shipyards during World War II. She also had been a volunteer at the Vancouver Barracks during the war and held several offices during 17 years of membership in the Fort Vancouver Grandmothers Club · The family suggests that remembrances be contributed to charity. He fell from a trestle while working on an oil rig in Prudhoe Bay on the Arctic Ocean and drowned in the rapidly swirling water. There is little chance of the body being recovered. Word of the accident was received by Mrs. C. S. Marsh of Lewistown in a telephone call from Caulkins' aunt, Mrs. Clairmont Clark of Missoula. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Caulkins now live in Palmer, Alaska. ************************************************************************ Anna M Chandler Lewistown paper 5-1-1992 Anna M. Chandler died the morning of May 1, at the Central Montana Medical Center, after a lengthy illness. She was barn May 6, 1906, in Lewistown, the daughter of Charles and Anna Ruegg. Anna received her schooling in Lewistown. After her schooling she was employed by Mountain States Telephone Company in Lewistown. She began working as a telephone operator in 1926 and retired in 1963, after 38 years of employment with Mountain States Telephone Company. She was united in marriage to George L. Chandler on Feb. 23, 1946 in Lewistown. Anna was a member of W W I Auxiliary. Eagles, Degree of Honor and St. Leo's Catholic Church. Survivors include one sister Julie Bisson, Lewistown: one brother, Alex Ruegg, Missouri: one sister-in-law, Core M. Ruegg, Lewistown, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1972, and her parents. Funeral services will be at the St. Lee's Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 5 at 10 a.m. with Father Dan O'Rourke officiating. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. on Monday at Creel-Morrison-Retz Chapel. JOSEPH'S HOSPITAL FRIDAY; FUNERAL WILL BE HELD AT ROY MONDAY MORNING Frank Cimrhakl, Sr., 66, who has resided on his ranch 11 miles northeast of Roy for nearly 30 years, passed away at the St. Joseph's hospital at 10:15 Friday morning, death following a relatively short period of illness. Born in Czechoslovakia, Dec. 2, 1875, Frank Cimrhakl came to America in 1890 at the age of 16. He settled first in Chicago where he lived for five years and then moved to Protivin, Iowa where he engaged in farming and was married to Stella Lukes. To this union three children were born, all of whom survive. In 1909 the family moved to Lisbon, North Dakota where they resided for four years. In 1913 they came west to Montana and Mr. Cimrhakl took up a homestead northeast of Roy where he had lived since, extending his land holdings and farming operations to a considerable extent. Besides his wife, and son Frank, Jr. he is survived by two daughters; Mrs. Frank Stepan of Roy and Mrs. Cleve Gaine of Seattle, Wash., all of who were present when death came and will attend the funeral. Other survivors are a sister Barbara Novok of Czechoslovakia and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from the Catholic church at Roy at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30. The Rev. Father Bezdicek of Hilger will say the Mass and burial will be held in the Roy cemetery. Lewistown News Argus Dec. 1942 CIMRHAKL RITES HELD AT ROY MONDAY Roy, November 30,-Relatives and friends and neighbors of long standing gathered at the Catholic church here this morning to pay their last tributes of love and respect to the memory of Frank Cimrhakl, Sr., long-time ranch re sident of this community, who died Friday at the St. Joseph's hospital in Lewistown. The Rev. Father Bezdicek of Hilger said the mass and burial followed in the Roy cemetery. A native of Czechoslovakia, Frank Cimrhakl came to Fergus county with his wife and family in 1913. LeRoy Cimrhakl, 30, well known Roy rancher, died Monday evening at the Central Montana Hospital after an illness of six months. He was born December 1, 1943, at Lewistown, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cimrhakl. He received his early education at the Cimrhakl School and was graduated from Roy High School in 1963. During his high school career he was active in sports and was an outstanding basketball player. He married Anita Wallace on August 5, 1966, in Lewistown. They ranched near Roy and for the past few years he had been involved in the breeding of exotic cattle, along with his general ranching. Cimrhakl was a member of both the state and international Maine-Anjou Associations and the Limousine Association. He also belonged to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Roy. Survivors include the widow of Roy; one son Lorin, 5, and one daughter, Launa, 7, both of the family home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cimrhakl, Roy; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Stella Cimrhakl, Roy; two sisters, Mrs. Gene (Virginia) Durrin of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Glen (Judith) Thompson, Roy; two brothers, Robert Cimrhakl of Marysville, Washington., and Daniel Cimrhakl of Roy; two aunts, Mrs. Cleve (Adeline) Gaine of Couer D'Alene, Idaho, and Mrs. Elizabeth Stepan of Roy; one uncle Kenneth Brown, Las Vegas, Nevada,; and several nieces and nephews. She was born Dec. 25, 1879 in Protivin, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lukes. She received her education in Iowa and came to Roy in 1913. They homsteaded northeast of Roy and lived there until 1942 when they retired. She lived in Roy until four years ago when she moved to Lewistown and has lived in Valle Vista Manor until her death. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and made many quilts while at Valle Vista. She was united in marriage to Frank Cimrhakl on Oct. 22, 1900 in Protivin, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1942. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, three brothers and one grandson. Survivors include one son, Frank, Roy; two daughters Elizabeth Stepan of Roy and Adeline Gaine of Couer d'Alene, Idaho; two sisters, Mrs. Betty Moudry of Cresco, Iowa, and Mrs. Anna Fisher of Mason City, Iowa; seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday at St. Leo's Catholic Church with Father Joseph Diekhans officiating. Francis Zahler was organist and Mrs. Don Foster was soloist. Clark Lewistown Paper 12-30-1992 Former Lewistown resident, Clairmont C. Clark, 83, of Missoula, died of natural causes Wednesday, December 30, at the Mesa Lutheran Hospital (Mesa, AZ). He was born January 3, 1909, in Goodland, Indiana, to Clifford and Maude Clark. When he was five years old, the family relocated to Montana and homesteaded on a ranch northeast of Roy. On April 1, 1934, he married Alzora Prewett in Simms. The couple farmed and ranched at Roy for several years. During World War II, Mr. Clark worked in the Vancouver, Washington, shipyards. In 1945 he returned to Roy, where he owned a grocery store. In 1953, he moved his family to Missoula, where he acquired the O. K. Trading Co., an early-day landmark in the city of Missoula. He also worked for 14 years as the paint manager for Montgomery Ward. Clairmont served four terms on the Missoula City Council, from a1961 to 1969, and served as chairman of the finance committee for three terms. Over a period, Clairmont and his wife generously took into their hearts and home more than 100 children in need. He retired in 1975 and spent his summers in Missoula and winters in Apache Junction, Arizona. He was active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, delivering meals to the homebound elderly, and worked in any other capacity wherever needed. Clairmont was a longtime member of Missoula Lodge No. 13, AF & AM and a member of Immanuel Chapter No. 54, Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include his wife, Alzora, at the family home; two sons and their wives, Robert and Marge Clark, Missoula and Gerald and Carol Ann Clark, Cheyenne, Wyoming; six grandchildren and a great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Thelma Caulkins. CLARK Lewistown paper 9-14-1968 Clifford G. Clark, 87, former Roy resident died Wednesday afternoon at his home in Missoula. Clark was born August 6, 1881 in Goodland, Indiana. He married Maude Perkins March 16, 1904, in Indiana. In the spring of 1914 Peter Clark brought his family to Montana, homesteading west of Valentine. In 1952, Clark moved to Roy, and in 1961 owing to illness, he moved to Missoula to be near his son. In addition to the widow, Clark is survived by a son, Clairmont, Missoula; a daughter Thelma Caulkins, Palmer, Alaska; five grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Funeral services are slated Saturday at 10 a.m at the Cloyd Funeral home. Interment will follow in Lewistown City Cemetery. She was born September 5, 1883 at Goodland, IN, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Edward Perkins. She received her education in Indiana and attended Indiana University. On March 16, 1903 she was united in marriage to Clifford G. Clark in Goodland. In 1913 she moved to Montana and settled in the Roy-Valentine area where she lived until her retirement in 1962. Since her retirement, Mrs. Clark has made her home in Missoula. Her husband preceded her in death in 1968. Claver passed away at his home Saturday evening, Aug. 8, 1998, following a lengthy battle with cancer. He had lived for 61 years. David was born in Lewistown, a son of James and Elizabeth Claver. He went to school in Lewistown, later moving to Stanford and enlisting in the army in November of 1954. In 1958, David married Ruth Gregory in Lewistown. Following a divorce, Mr. Claver moved to Billings in 1962, where on Aug. 25, 1964, he married Delores Beeffier Rodell. They were divorced in 1996. David worked in building and road construction all his life. He enjoyed time spent camping, prospecting for gold, playing cards with family and friends or betting on the race horses. Mr. Claver is survived by three daughters, Patricia Karagiosis of Bozeman, Pamela Daley of Elko, Nev., and Cindy Bargas of Billings; two sons, Kerry Claver of St. George, Utah and David Ray Claver of Billings; four stepsons, Leonard of Miles City, and Robert, Charles and Dennis Rodell of Billings; two brothers, Lee Claver of Seattle and Jimmy Claver of Stanford; a sister, Susan Watkins of Lewistown; 12 grandchildren; and his companion and dear friend, Miriam Vialpando of Billings. She was born July 28, 1909, in Belt, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Williams) Lander. She received her education in Belt graduating from high school there. She then attended Great Falls Commercial College. She began working for Montgomery Wards in Great Falls, transferring to Lewistown in 1931. On Dec. 26, 1932, she was united in marriage to Harold Coolidge in Lewistown. She later worked as a service representative for Mountain States Telephone Co. until her retirement. Harold preceded her in death in 1981. She continued to live in Lewistown and on Aug. 6, 1990, she was united in marriage to Chester C. Cleland in Lewistown. He preceded her in death in 1992. Gladys was active in the PTA and school activities when her children were young. She loved to play the piano and organ and growing flowers in her garden. She was very proud of her ability to spell and define any word in the English dictionary. Gladys was a member of the United Methodist Church and Marie Chapter Order of Eastern Star. Her parents, two sons, Gary and Neil, one sister and two brothers all preceded her in death. Cleveland, 78, of Lewistown died suddenly Tuesday morning at Benefis Hospital in Great Falls of natural causes. He was born July 14, 1920, in Ballantine, the son of DeForrest and Verna Cleveland. He received his schooling in the Ballantine area and then entered the U.S. Army in 1937. He was discharged in 1940 and returned to Montana, farming in the Ballantine area. On May 31, 1941 he was united in marriage to Gladys J. (Taddy) Bjornson in Hardin. In 1943 he again entered the U.S. Army, receiving several medals and ribbons for his excellent service. After his discharge in 1946 he began working at Midland Implement in Billings. They moved to Lewistown in 1960 and he worked for Horning Implement. He retired in 1987 and they moved to Martinsdale. They returned to Lewistown and opened the 4 Aces Casino and Restaurant in 1990 with their daughters and families. He continued living in Lewistown until the time of his death. Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, camping with his family, visiting and playing cards with his family and friends. He enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a Life Member of the VFW Post 5609 of White Sulphur Springs, Moose Lodge 1239 and Fergus Post No. 16 American Legion, both of Lewistown. Mrs. Clingan who was a member of the daughters of the Montana Pioneers, was born in the Gallatin Valley near Bozeman on May 4 1880. She was the daughter of John and Jennie Simpson. In 1906 she married Hulett "Hugh" Clingan and they moved to Lewistown where they operated a rooming house. Her husband died in 1920 and she worked for the phone company and the Power Mercantile for several years. Survivors are a sister, Mable Gilkerson from Seal Beach, California, three nephews, R. Donald Ayers of Lewistown, Arthur Ayers and Jack Gilkerson, both of California; and a niece, Doris Williams of Great Falls. She was born December 27, 1907, on the Cowan Ranch near Belgrade, the daughter of John P. and Nellie N. (Gray) Hahs. She received her schooling in Manhattan, graduating from high school there. In 1924 she was united in marriage to W.W. Cloyd. They moved to Portland and she went to beauty school. They returned to Montana, living in Sheridan where she operated a beauty shop until moving in 1936 to Livingston where he was a dentist. In 1941, she moved to California and worked as a beautician. She retired in 1957 and moved back to Montana. She lived in Sidney and worked for Turner Drug. She later moved to Bozeman and worked for Roecher Drug retiring in 1973 when she moved to Lewistown. Nell was a member of the United Methodist Church, Daughters of the Nile, Marie Chapter Order of Eastern Star and life member of Order of Eastern Star of Virginia City. He was born on May 1, 1917, in Fox, Va., the son of Charles D. and Mary Ellen Parks Collins. The family moved to Montana when he was 3 months of age. He married Virginia Jane Peters on Feb. 21, 1942. They lived and raised their children on the old homestead place southeast of Denton. In the fall of 1961, they sold the farm and moved to Great Falls where he worked for the G.T.A. until he retired in 1983. Upon retirement, he and his wife made their home in Lewistown. She went to school in Minnesota and Wisconsin and graduated from Teachers College in Grand Rapids, Wisconsin in 1914. She taught in South Dakota where she met and was married to John Samuel Conolly May wed 1914 at Pierre. In 1918 her family moved to Sheridan, Wyoming They moved to a homestead North of Ashland in 1919 and to Hardin in 1924; she graduated from Hardin High School in 1920 and attended Eastern Montana Normal School 1926 to 1929. She taught school 1929 to 1930 on the North Bench near Hardin. She married George Overbo on June 13, 1930, in Absarokee. She graduated from EMC in May 1941. She then taught rural schools around Absarokee and Hardin and the last school in 1945 was Pine Hill school in Lockwood, which closed the spring of 1945. The fall of 1945 she began working for the Public Welfare Department until 1948. In 1948 she started a child care in her home with 14 children. In 1950 the children's nursery moved to the Chris Yegan Mansion in Billings. In 1951 she started her nursing home which she operated 23 years. In 1952 she married Roy Cornelius and he preceded her in death in the fall of 1972. She was one of the founders of the Montana Nursing Home Association which started in 1956 and was the first president. She enjoyed decapague, sewing, and in the fall of 1993 published "Indian Trails", a book about pictures of the Crow and Northern Cheyenne Indians her father had taken between 1923 to 1926. She moved to the nursing home in Lewistown in April 1998. She was past Regent Shining Mountain Chapter DAR, and Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. Mrs. Amy Lou Covert, 69 died suddenly Sunday at Corvallis, Montana, where she lived with a son. Her sister Mrs. Elizabeth (Bessie) Sheldon, 73 died Wednesday at Lynwood, Washington, where she was living with a son. She had been ill a long time. Both women grew up in the Winnett area. Mrs. Covert was born June 25, 1906 at Valdez, Alaska, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Busby. The family moved to Winnett in 1912, where she attended school. On July 23, 1927, she married Robert B. Covert in Lewistown. They lived on his homestead near Valentine until 1936 when the family moved to the Bitterroot Valley of western Montana. Her husband continued ranching until about 1955 when he retired. He died April 17, 1970. Mrs. Covert had made her home in recent years with her son, Bill, who ranches near Corvallis. She is survived by three brothers, Cecil Busby of Snoqualmie, Washington, Wayne Busby of Issaquah, Washington and Bud Busby of Ticonderoga, NY. Mrs. Covert is survived by three sons, William of Corvallis, Scott of Hamilton and Jerry of Lewiston, Idaho; a daughter Mrs. Slater (Janice) Parten of North bend, Oregon and sever grandchildren. She attended the Hansen Creek School. She was one of 14 children and she often recalled how following church on Sundays, the family would visit other homesteaders in the Hansen Creek area. In 1931, at Traverse City, Michigan, she was united in marriage to Efton Crook. He preceded her in death in 1980. Mildred was a member of First Christian Church and its council. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and traveling. She also liked family get-togethers, visiting, and playing Caroom. Survivors include five sons: Lloyd Crook of Longmont, Colorado, Mervin Crook of Gillette, Wyoming, Dwayne Crook of Lewistown, Clarence Crook of Lewistown, Cleo Crook of Gillette, Wyoming; and three daughters: Berniece Maas of Gillette, Wyoming Theresa Bachman of Sonora, California, and Marjorie Jumper of Stevensville. Forrest was born in Lebanon, Kan., on Jan. 22, 1911. His family moved to a homestead in Buffalo Creek when he was a small boy. Forrest went to school in Moore and graduated from Moore High School in 1928. Forrest continued his education by attending two years of Business College. While working in Billings he met Helen Ruth Ulrich and they were married on Dec. 7, 1935. Forrest and Helen were happily married for 45 years before Helen passed away in March of 1980. During his life, Forrest was active in the Montana Government. He served four terms in the House of Representatives for Yellowstone County. He was active in various political organizations and was concerned about keeping America on the track our forefathers intended. Forrest also served as a police officer during World War II and then went into private business and real estate development. He was an active member of the Shrine, The Mason's Fraternal Order and the Elk's Club. He loved to play cards, dance and talk politics. The pride and joy of his life was his family. Forrest is survived by his two children, Hal Crum of Billings and Ginny Rierson of Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren, Scott and Janet Crum and Roni and Darbi Rierson; two great-grandchildren, Dallas and Madison Crum; and his sister, Thelma Hargrove and niece, Cody Hargrove of Billings. Her long struggle with diabetes and shorter battle with cancer ended peacefully at the home of her daughter surrounded by her loving children and caregivers. Blanche was born on March 21, 1919, the daughter of Clyde and Zadie (Hanks) Jeffery in Denton. Blanche was from a large family of three brothers and seven sisters. She graduated in Denton, then came to Billings and worked as a telephone operator in Denton then moved to Billings to attend beauty college and operated a shop in Billings. On January 25, 1946, Blanche married Raymond Crystal. Ray was a truck driver so Blanche had the responsibility of raising three children. She was active in her children's lives by going to school programs, PTA groups and being a Scout leader. She also was a "neighborhood mom" to numerous kids and her children's friends. Blanche's home was a gathering place on the block. Blanche then continued her loving nature onto her grandchildren and then became the "neighborhood grandma." She always had pictures and stories to share with any visitor who came by. Blanche took great pride in her three great-granddaughters and her eyes would light up just talking about them. She will be sorely missed by all. Blanche was a member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church and a past member of the church's Friendly Circle. Blanche is survived by one son, Robert of Billings; and two daughters, Donna of Battle Mountain, Nevada, and Connie of Billings. She also leaves her three grandchildren, Stacy and wife, Sandra Crystal of Tucson, Arizona, Corie and husband, Tim Weisenberger of Oak Harbor, Washington, and Amy Crystal of Lancaster, California Her great-granddaughters are Brittany and Marisa Crystal of Tucson and Mia Weisenberger of Oak Harbor.
