Econom Billings Gazette Vitals 11-27-98 Billings, MT cGeorge N. Econom, 61, of Winifred died Tuesday morning at his home of natural causes. He was born May 3, 1937 in Spokane, Wash., the son of Nick and Helen Econom. They lived in Adair, Idaho, before moving to Winifred in 1938. George attended Winifred School graduating from Winifred High School in 1955. On September 25, 1955, he was united in marriage to Eileen Pollard in Lewistown. He farmed with his parents continuing after they retired. He later farmed with his children spending his life in Winifred with his family until his death. George was a family man and dreamed of farming with all of his children. He achieved this dream when they purchased the Bus & Alice Thompson Ranch for Becky and Keith and then the Art & Lucille Osburnson Ranch for Chris and Mike with Nick and Ann on the home ranch. He always said how nice it was to work with his son and two son-in-laws and be able to see his children and grandchildren everyday. George served on the Central Montana Medical Center Board, Farm Credit Board, Winifred Community Club, Winifred Cenex, Winifred Harvest States, Winifred Rodeo Club, life member of the Lewistown Eagles Lodge, Montana Pilots Association, Farm Bureau and Winifred Rifle Club. In 1975, George was named Outstanding Young Farmer. In 1987, he was instrumental in helping to start the Central Montana Agriculture Tour and in 1997 was named Agriculture Person of the Year. George is survived by his loving wife Eileen; one son: Nick and his wife Ann; two daughters: Becky Meckling and her husband Keith and Chris Schmitt and her husband Mike; eight grandchildren: Amy, Tara, Candee Meckling, Lindsey and Stephi Schmitt, Nicolas, Kari and Joe Econom all of Winifred; his mother Helen Econom of Lewistown; one sister: Callie Chamberlain and her husband Dick of Kalispell; two brothers: Sam of Vancouver, Wash. and Tom and his wife Wilma of Winifred; his special Uncle Paul Econom of Astoria, NY; a very special cousin, Jim Targaris and his wife Sevo of Chicago and Chris Paspalis of NY; his mother-in-law Marie Pollard of Lewistown; three sisters-in-law: Sandy Styer and her husband ,Bill, of Winnemucca, Nevada, Carol McGrail and her husband, Ron, of Billings and Joyce Pospisil of Lewistown and many much loved nieces and nephews. His father preceded him in death. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Winifred High School with interment to follow in the Winifred Cemetery. Edsall, 93 of Bozeman, died October 15 in the Madison Count Nursing Home in Sheridan of natural causes. She was born January 31, 1897 in Corwith, Iowa, to George Henry and Edith Briggs Miller. On November 17, 1969 she married Roy L. Edsall in Lewistown. She and her husband were instrumental in forming the Fergus County Council of Aging and quietly performed many acts of charity and kindness in Lewistown. Mrs. Edsall received her early education in North Dakota and after graduation she attended the University of Illinois at Chicago where she received her bachelor of philosophy in education in 1930. She received a masters's of psychology of education in 1938. She then took her doctorate from the teachers' college in Columbia University in New York City. Mrs. Edsall taught schools in Garfield County from 1915 to 1922, was principal of Parkridge, IL, Girls' from 1923 to 1928 , principal of the Convalescent and Crippled Children's School in Chicago from 1930 to 1942.. She was professor of special education at central Washington State College from 1964 to 1968, professor at the University of Alaska and visiting professor of education at Alaska Methodist University. She was a 50 year member of the Altrusa Club. Survivors include three stepsons, Glen of Bozeman, Lowell of Sheridan and Phillips of Williamsburg, VA; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Bill (Rheta) Kissler of Bozeman; a sister, Mrs. Lyle (Leta) Sawyer of Nacona, TX 11 step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Edsall, 83, Bozeman, and formerly of Lewistown died Monday morning in a Bozeman nursing home following an extended illness. He was born August 27, 1895 in Wagner, Missour., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Edsall He came to Bozeman in 1912. In 1916 he homesteaded in Garfield County, where he ranched until his retirement in 1961. He moved to Lewistown that year and made his home here until 1976 when he moved to Bozeman. Edsall was united in marriage to Hazel Miller in September, 1920, in Garfield County in her father's house. She preceded him in death in 1967. He was united in marriage to Loretta Miller in Lewistown Nov. 16, 1969. He was a member of the Lewistown Eagles Lodge, the American Legion Fergus Post No. 16, Montana Senior Citizens, and Masonic Lodge No. 37 AF and AM of Lewistown. He helped organize the Central Montana Senior Citizens Association and served as the first president. Edsall is survived by his wife of Bozeman: three sons, Glenn of Bozeman, Lowell of Sheridan. Wyoming, and Philip of Tucson, Arizona : one daughter, Mrs. W. D. (Rheta) Kissler of Woolbridge, Virginia: and one brother, Alonzo of West Sacramento, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and two brothers, O. L. and Clyde Edsall. Funeral services for Roy Edsall will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Cloyd Chapel. Rev Gordon Parke of the First United Presbyterian Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens of Lewistown. Masonic rites will be in the chapel and military rites at graveside by Fergus Post No 16 of the American Legion. "BABE" EDWARDS Lewistown paper no date given Ada L. (Babe) Edwards, 79, of Lewistown, died Sunday morning, January 22 at the Central Montana Skilled Nursing Center of. natural Causes. She was born January 17, 1916 in Dayton. Washington, the daughter of Earl and Nina Burnham. In the early 1920s they moved to Montana. She attended schools in Lewistown graduating from Fergus County High School 1934. She then attended Kinman Business College in Spokane, Washington. She was united in marriage to Vern Edwards on June 10, 1941 in Stanford. They lived in Lewistown until their divorce in 1951. She continued to live in Lewistown, living in the Eagles Manor the last 12 years. She was known for her piano playing at many country dances. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. Ada is survived by three daughters, Carole McWilliams of Spanaway, WA, Linda Bergum of Kent, WA, and Jeanette Montgomery of Lewistown: one son, John Edwards of Belgrade: nine brothers, Dean and Irvin Burnham of Lewistown, Wilfred Burnham of Belleville, IL., Chuck Burnham of Green Acres, WA, Ralph Burnham of Palouse, WA, and Richard Burnham of Emmett, ID; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, including Barbara Wicke and Arlene Battrick, both of Lewistown. Edwards, 82, long time Central Montana resident, died Wednesday evening at the Central Montana nursing home after an extended illness. She was born September 1, 1895, in Cedardale, Michigan. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. U. Abbott. She came to Montana in 1908 with her family, settling first in the Windham community, then moving to Buffalo in 1911. She married John M. Edwards of Buffalo in 1914 and lived on the ranch for 43 years. Edwards preceded her in death. Mrs. Edwards moved to Lewistown where she had made her home until the time of her death. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and for many years served as treasurer for the entire Judith Basin Parish. She is survived by one son, John M of Lewistown; two daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Evelyn) Beckmore of Lewistown, and Mrs. E. S. (Janice) Johnston of Raymond, WA, one brother Ivan Abbot of Billings; 11 grandchildren great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Edwards were held Saturday (today) at Cloyd Funeral Chapel. Rev. Robert Grilley of the United Methodist Church officiated at the afternoon services. Rev. Harold Dover, Lewistown, officiated at the graveside services. Louise Langford played the organ and Doug Wolfe was the soloist. He sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace". Pallbearers were Lee Biehl, Albert Dover, George Dover, John Dover, George Hollenback and Earl Johnson. She moved to Lewistown in 1939 and graduated from high school. Donna married and had six children. She was employed as a nurse's aide and later moved to Billings in 1987. Emery Lewistown paper 9-18-1987 Longtime Central Montana area resident Grant D. Emery, 80, died Friday morning at Valle Vista Manor after a lengthy illness. He was born April 16, 1907 in Mills, Minnisota, the son of Arthur and Dora Emery. He attended school in Minnesota and worked as a ranch hand most of his Life. He came to the Roy area in 1932 with his mother, brother and sister-in-law. He worked on ranches in the Roy and Winifred area until he joined the Army Air Caps in 1942 and was discharged in 1945. After his discharge he returned to the Roy area until 1985 when he had a stroke. He has lived at Valle Vista Manor until the time of his death. He was a member of the Roy American Legion No. 96. He is survived by his sister, Julia Grimes of Minneapolis. Minnesota.; his nephews. Larry Emery of Hobson and Floyd Emery of Roy; his niece, Wanda Kolstad of Roy and other numerous nieces and nephews. A Central Montana native, he was well known throughout Montana. He was born January 26, 1937, and grew up in Roy. Following his schooling he served two years in the US Army. He was united in marriage to Regena Hanway and they moved back to Montana. For the past sixteen years he lived in Hobson. A longtime sheep shearer, he worked various other jobs and for the last several years worked as a crop insurance adjuster. He was a member of the Masons, Order of Eastern Star and the American Legion. Survivors included his wife, Rosealie Emery of Hobson; two sons, Randy Emery of Fallon, NV., and Charles Emery of Billings; a brother, Floyd Emery of Roy; a sister Wanda Anich. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 19 at Creel Funeral Chapel.
