Source Billings Gazette ************************************************************************* Howard Haggerty - 1998 Surname: HAGGERTY, ZIMMERMAN, NORTHY, CHARPIER Howard Haggerty 1914-1998 Billings Gazette Vitals 8-12-1998 Billings, MT ROSEVILLE, Calif. - On July 19, 1998, Howard Clinton Haggerty passed away at the age of 84 at Mercy San Juan Hospital in Carmichael. Howard, and his twin brother, Homer, were the youngest of nine children born to pioneers, Charles Edward and Lola Zimmerman Haggerty. They had moved to Montana in 1912 and had homesteaded near Lewistown where Howard was born. The parents eventually moved to Bridger, Mont., and are buried there. Howard and Homer graduated from Bridger High School in 1931. He worked in the CCC from 1935 to 1937. In 1938, Howard married Regina Northy of Red Lodge, Montana. They moved to Fort Peck where he worked on the construction of the dam. Subsequently, he was transferred to the Panama Canal Zone for bombproofing of the locks during WWII. In 1943, Howard began working for Kaiser in the shipyards. He retired in 1969 after 36 years of service with different Kaiser companies in Michigan, Argentina and California. His last 20 years were with Kaiser Hospitals and Health Plan as vice president in charge of all their properties. Howard is survived by his wife, Regina of Roseville; their two children, Janis Charpier and Patrick Haggerty, both of Citrus Heights; and five grandchildren, all of California. Burial at Bridger Cemetery. ************************************************************************* Francis Hagstrom Lewistown paper 9-5-1969 Dr. Francis Hagstrom, 86, Lewistown dentist for many years, died Friday night in a Helena hospital. Dr. Hagstrom had made his home in Helena for the past few years. Funeral services are slated Wednesday at 2 p m, at the Creel-Gurnett-Retz Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Lewistown City Cemetery with Masonic rites at graveside. Born January 9, 1910 in Burlington, Wisconsin, a daughter of Mr., and Mrs. Louie Lightfield, she received her education in Burlington, later moving to Crane, Montana near Sidney. She was united in marriage to Russell E. Halver October 21, 1926 in Crane. They lived in Havre until moving to Lewistown 14 years ago. In March, 1987 she moved to Roswell to be near her daughter. Mrs. Halver was a member of the Methodist Church, Eastern Star No 30 of Havre, the Eagles Auxiliary of Lewistown and the Lewistown Garden Club She was preceded in death by her husband in l983. She was born Feb. 26, 1906, in Whitehouse, Ohio, the seventh child of Electa Rose Miller and Christopher Obee, a circuit riding Methodist minister. In 1919, the family settled in Fergus County, Mont., and Alice's love affair with Montana began. A sister, Esther Biggerstaff of Missoula, Mont., survives her. For 57 years, Alice was married to Montana-born Robert L. Hamilton, Billings educator and community leader. Together they enjoyed nature photography and taught First Aid in Billings and flower designing and horticulture in flower show schools over the western part of the United States. Alice and Bob traveled in every state, over much of North and South America and around the world. In 1957, Alice Became the first Montana judge to become a Flower Show schools instructor for the National Council of State Garden Clubs, Inc. Her arrangements were featured in national flower and garden calendars. She and husband Bob were awarded the National Council TV-Radio Award in 1958 for airing a weekly gardening program, "Sincerely Billie," for nine years on KOOK-TV. After Robert's death in 1983, Alice learned how to use a computer and compiled her 28 years of Billings Gazette garden columns into the book, Gardening in the Northern High Plains. Don Peter did the illustrations for the book. Alice and Don were married July 13, 1985, the week the book was printed. Peter survives her. Alice was a 50 year plus member of First Presbyterian Church, Polyrock Extension Club and the Billings Garden Club. She was past state president of the Montana Federation of Garden Clubs and editor of "Montana Gardens" in 1954-1956. In 1955, she began writing garden articles for The Billings Gazette. In 1993, Alice received the prestigious National Council of State Garden Clubs national award for All Around Excellence. In 1997, she received an award from The Billings Gazette in recognition of her 42 years as a weekly garden columnist. Alice was also active in Audubon, 4-H, Historical Society, Yellowstone Valley Retired Teachers, Gray Ladies, RSVP, and ZooMontana. In 1985, the American Association of University Women, Billings Chapter, awarded her a named gift in the Education Foundation Program because of the value of her writings to the public. She received a Woman of Distinction award in 1994 from the Soroptimist International of the Americas, Billings' Chapter, for her work aiding the environment. In 1997, she received a Bright 'n' Beautiful Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding contributions to beautification. Last year she had a bench in the garden at Zoo Montana to honor her for her many years of support of the zoo as "Author, Gardener, and Friend." Alice graduated from Eastern Montana College and taught in elementary and high schools in Billings. Alice was proud to have been a first grade teacher in Billings, and thought it the most important grade in any child's life. Alice Obee Hamilton, who was preceded in death by her son Robert Lail Hamilton Jr., is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Romelda and Jack Mueller of 250 Hau'oli Street, Ma'alaea, Maui, Hawaii and her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Richard and Donna Hamilton of Park City, seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as a large extended family. A memorial service is pending at the First Presbyterian Church of Billings. In lieu of cut flowers, the family requests plants suitable for transplant at ZooMontana or St. Johns Lutheran Home. He was born October 26, 1911, south of Ambrose, North Dakota, the son of Emil and Minnie Hanson. He attended schools in Ambrose, where the family resided. Eldon was joined in marriage with Metta Christine Larsen in 1935. They farmed south of Westby, until moving to Columbia Falls in the fall of 1964. Many of Eldon's best hours were spent with his children on the farm. He was a horseman, and spent many days with his children racing horses at the county fair and Divide and Sheridan county racing events. Eldon's interests included music and poetry; he took great pride in his wife's beautiful singing and he helped his children develop an interest in music. He often wrote a special poem for the birthdays and anniversaries of his family members. Eldon was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his brothers, Arnold and Harold. He is survived by his son, Eldon L. Hanson (Shirley) of Missoula; his daughters, Jean (Oz) Anderson of Eau Claire, Wis., Barbara (Gene) Espeland and Sandra (Fred) McCracken of Billings, Mary (Norm) Hagen and Sharon (Jim) Ward of Columbia Falls; his sister, Lucille (Ellsworth) Johnson of Minneapolis, and his brothers, Everett (Berniece) of Ambrose, Arden (Marie) of Crosby, N.D., and Ronald (June) of Alexandria, Minn.; three foster children, John (Donna) Riggs of Billings, Ginger (Mike) Sullivan of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Robert Irwin Damrose. Services are pending. **************************************************************** Elmer Hanson Elmer N Hanson 78, Lewistown, died Sunday evening at Central Montana Hospital after a lengthy illness He was born in Lake Benton, Minnisota., June 30, 1899, the son of John and Rachel Hanson. He came to the Winnett area in 1917. He was in the service during World War I. He married Doris Wells May 10, 1922, in Pipestone, Minnesota. They lived in Minnisota where he worked on construction until 1924. They later moved to Pollack, SD., where he war engaged in ranching. In 1934, Hanson moved to the Dovetail-Valentine area where he ranched until 1951. He retired in 1975 and moved to Lewistown. He was a member of the American Legion of Winnett. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1950; one son, Harry 1957; and two sisters Survivors include four sons, Charles and Keith of Lewistown; John and Richard of Winnett; one daughter, Mrs. Virginia Brady of Winnett: 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: two brothers, Ivan of Lake Benton, Minnesota., and Peter of Largo, Florida, and one sister, Mrs. Ruth Sisson of Sweet Home. She died Wednesday in a Billings hospital. Mrs. Hardy was born at Beaver City, Nebraska, March 7, 1888. She moved with her parents to clay City, Illinois as a child. On 1911, she married Milo Hardy at Vincinnes, Indiana. After their marriage they homesteaded in the Winifred area and later moved to Lewistown. He preceded her in death in 1945. She is survived by two sons Donald of Billings and Dorance of Forks, Washington; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The Rev. Ed Pangburn of the First Christian church officiated the funeral. Lenny Luzzi sang "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset" accompanied by Joyce Streber. Lewistown Paper 12-4-1990 Lewistown, MT Fergus County Ernest Eastin Harrell, Sr., 78 of Lewistown and Roy, died Tuesday, December 4, at Valle Vista Manor after a lengthy illness. He was born September 28, 1912 in Cadwell, IL, a son of Evert and Hester Harrell and attended school in Hilger and Roy, and at the Molar Barber College in Spokane, WA. On July 22, 1940, he married Nona L Daniels in Idaho Falls. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, past secretary and board member of the Roy Rodeo Club. And past president of the Lewistown Barber Association. Mr. Harrell moved from Idaho with his wife and their two oldest sons in 1943 and lived the past 27 years in Lewistown, where he worked as a barber until his retirement in 1975. He ranched in the Roy area prior to that. He will be best remembered by his family and multitude of friends as a person who could always be counted on to help in a hard spot. Preceding him in death were his father and mother; two brothers, Jake and Butch; a sister Martha Ann; his son Danny Joe; and a granddaughter Melanie. Mr. Harrell is survived by his loving wife Nona; six sons, Lewis and his wife Mona of Roy, Tom and his wife Peggy of Boise, Idaho, Jesse and his wife Gayle of Kimberly, Idaho, Ernest. Jr. and his wife Irene of Havre, Mike L. and his wife Kass of Jackson, WY, Tim and his wife Suzy of Lewistown; three daughters, Patsy Heppner and her husband Wayne of Colstrip, Edna Crouch and her husband Larry of Sedalia, MO, Tamie Ramsey and her husband Kevin, of Winslow,. Harrell Lewistown paper 10-26-1988 Evert M. Harrell homesteaded in the Suffolk area in 1916. He brought his own livestock and farm equipment with him all the way from Lovington, Illinois ,and had quite a time getting them to the homestead. He farmed and ranched in the Central Montana area most of his life: Mr. Harrell died Wednesday, Oct, 16 in Roundup, Montana after a lengthy illness. He was l00 years old. Evert M, Harrell was born Aug. 7, 1888 in Lovington, Illinois. a son of Alexander and Anna Harrell. He received his education in Lovington schools and worked on area farms during his schooling. He then farmed on his own until his marriage. On August 22, 1911, he married Hester M. Eastin in Lovington and they moved to Suffolk in 1916. After the drought he sold his homestead and moved to a ranch near Kendall. He was a member of the school board there for 10 years. He also leased the Horse Ranch near Fergus during that time. The couple moved to Idaho, Living there for a few years and then returning to Roy, Montana in 1928. Mr. Harrell farmed and ranched there until his retirement in 1968. He moved to Roundup in 1882 to be near his daughter. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1970, two sons, Jake and Butch, and one daughter. Survivors include three sons, Ernest of Lewistown, Harold E. of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and James W. of Ashton, Idaho; three daughters, Marie M. Hall of Lewistown. Ruby H. Tull of Roundup, and Lucy Kalal of Lewistown; one brother, Forest Harrell of Bakersfield, California : 39 grandchildren and numerous great and great, great grandchildren. Funeral services for Evert M Harrell will be held Monday, October 31 at 2 p m, at the Creel-Morrison-Retz Chapel with Rev. Mike Dean officiating Interment will be in the Lewistown City Cemetery. She graduated from Greeley, Colorado, with a BA in Elementary Education. Betty taught school in Colorado, Montana, Washington, and British Columbia Canada. She was also a principal in Grassy Plains, British Columbia Betty's hobbies included playing bridge and gardening. She was married to Thomas A. Samples of Billings from 1947 to 1962. He was born Oct 24, 1893 at Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Allcock. He moved to Wyoming at an early age where he received his schooling. He was employed on road construction in that state for two years. He came to Montana in 1906 and settled In the Denton area, where he was engaged in the drayage business with his father and brother. He married Lula LaRue Wells November 11 1916, in Denton. He served In World War I and following his discharge he homesteaded in the Cat Creek area. In 1921 he went to work in the oil fields at Cat Creek and other areas. In 1932 he went to work for the Montana Liquor Control Board for 12 years. In 1949 he bought a motel in White Sulphur Springs, which he operated until 1953. After selling the motel he moved to Winnett where he lived until his retirement in 1956. He then moved to Lewistown He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, past state commander of both the World War I Veterans and the Disabled American Veterans a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the military Order of the Purple Heart and a 50-year member of American Legion Post No 16, Lewistown. Survivors include the widow of Lewistown; one daughter; Jeannette Sanford of Lewistown; a brother, John, Great Falls; four sisters, Myrtle Redd, Blanding, Utah Thora Howard, Salt Lake City, Utah, Rubye Taylor and Merlyn Rupp both of Reno Nevada; two grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral was Thursday with burial following in Shelby. Harvey was born in Chippewa Falls, WI. He was active in farming and ranching for many years in the Sunburst, Lewistown and Cut Bank areas. He married Frances Kees May 3, 1911 and she died in 1956. Survivors include three daughters, Frances Dorcas of Sunburst, Dorothy Peterson of Cut Bank and Marian Wyatt of Dallas, TX: one brother, Robert Harvey, Phoenix. She was married November 10, 1926, In Olympia, Washington, to Louise Hassler. After their marriage they came to his farm near Hilger and lived there until 1942 when they retired and moved into Lewistown She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and St. Paul's Ladies Aid. Mrs. Hassler was preceded in death by her husband in 1950, two brothers one sister and a stepson. Survivors include one son, Wayne Hassler of Lewistown; two step-daughters, Doris Biby of Beaumont California, and Lillian Addison of Hamilton; five step-sons, Bill Paul Hassler of Hilger, Henry and Herbert of Lewistown, and Raymond of Orange, California.; 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. *********************************************************************** Charles M. Hayes Lewistown paper 5-7-1979 Charles M. Hayes, 68, Lewistown, died early Thursday morning at the Central Montana Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 30, 1910, at French Berg, Kentucky, the son of Marion and Georgia Hayes. His parents died when he was three and he lived with his aunt and uncle in Morehead, Kentucky, where he received his education. After his schooling, he moved to East Chicago, Indiana, in 1928, where he was a steelworker. He married Mary E. Kurns in Crown Point, Indiana, on September. 10, 1932. In 1938 he moved to Central Montana and worked for the PN Ranch. In 1940 he moved to Lewistown and worked at Heath He went to work for Miller-Ayers Livestock Company in 1948 and became a partner in 1952 after the name was changed to Miller Livestock Company. After his semi-retirement, he and his wife, Mary, operated the Variety Shoppe in Lewistown until 1977. He was a member of The Seventh Day Adventist Church of Lewistown. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife; two sons. Melvin E, Spokane, Washington, and Charles E., Jr., Santa Ana, California ; one daughter, Lovella G Hayes, Logan, Utah; two sisters, Ora Harris, Middletown, Ohio, and Louise Howard, Dayton, Ohio: 15 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Headlee of Lewistown, 67, died early Sunday morning at Central Montana Hospital. He was born April 11, 1920 in Lewistown, the son of Marve and Grace Headlee, and received his schooling in Lewistown, graduating from Fergus High School in 1938. From 1940 until 1942, he was employed by Safeway Stores in Lewistown as a clerk, and he entered the U.S. Navy in 1942, serving in the South Pacific and Aleutian Islands. After receiving his discharge in 1945, he returned to Lewistown, where he had lived until the time of his death. He was employed as a carpenter for various contractors and as an independent contractor until his retirement in the early 70s. From 1977 until 1983, he worked as a bartender at the Eagles Club. He is survived by one brother, Darl Headlee of Lewistown: one stepson Gary Distad of Havre; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Manuel Heggem, 83, former Lewistown resident, died on Thursday, July 16, 1998, at the Parkview Convalescent Care Center in Billings where she had resided for the past four years. She was born at Judith Gap on July 10, 1915, to Charles R. And Mame (Fox) Franks. She attended school at Judith Gap, graduating from Judith Gap High School in 1933. Lois then attended Billings Normal School, graduating in 1935. On May 19, 1939, at Judith Gap, she was united in marriage to Ted B. Manuel. He preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1974. On Aug. 31, 1979, at Harlowton, she was united in marriage to Robert J. Heggem. He preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1991. Lois taught school at Buffalo and Straw from 1935 to 1939. Following their marriage, she and Ted owned and operated Ideal Laundry and Dry Cleaners in Harlowton from 1940 until 1949. They then established Mid-West Leather Cleaners in Billings, which they owned and operated from 1949 until 1952. In 1952, they moved to Lewistown to operate Fashion Dry Cleaners until 1955. Lois then worked for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph (now US West) from 1955 to 1970. In 1965, she and Ted purchased a ranch north of Winifred, where she lived until Ted's death in 1974. Lois then moved to Lewistown and was employed by the Mental Health Center until 1979, when she married Robert J. Heggem. Lois enjoyed sewing, crafts, dancing and playing the piano. She was a member of the Women of the Moose and Eagles Auxiliary. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Deborah Manuel of Lewistown; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Foy McCollum of Lewistown; and Sue and George Fisher of Winifred. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Aaron Manuel, Stefani Manuel, Eric McCollum, Kara McCollum, Lisa Fisher, Quinn Fisher, Ross Berg, Joe Berg and Wendy Berg and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, two brothers, and her parents. She was educated in Iowa and in 1931 she moved to Montana, settling in Lewistown. In 1934 she married Albert W. Heller in Lewistown. They lived in Lewistown and she worked at several businesses, including Safeway, Eck's Pharmacy, Rosland Drug and Owl Drug, where she was employed until earlier this year when she quit due to health. Mrs. Heller was an avid bowler, and was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church and the Women of the Moose. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1953. These two families raised their children together on Butcher Creek, ranching close together with many happy memories with friends and both families. Elsie loved to knit and garden and was a wonderful cook. She loved to spend time with her family and liked a good long walk. She and Archie loved to dance and play cards and were lifetime partners in their ranching business that they shared with their family. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Archie, and five brothers and one sister. He was born in Lewistown Dec. 29, 1908, a son of John and Annie Hickey. He received his education at Catholic Academy in Missoula and in Moore. After his schooling, he worked with his parents on their ranch at Moore until 1941, when he joined the Army and served in a tank division in Germany and France during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star after being in Battle of the Bulge. After his service, he returned to Moore to farm and ranch with his brother, Ed, raising Hereford cattle. He retired in 1977. On Dec. 29, l972, he was united in marriage to Alta Hull in Lewistown and has Lived in Lewistown since 1973. He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Elks Lodge, Eagles Lodge, Cattlemen's Association and Knights of Columbus. Mr. Hickey was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John and Maurice, and by two sisters, Alice and Ruth. She returned to the Lewistown area in 1959 and moved to Lewistown m 1961. She has been a resident of Valle Vista since 1974. Mrs. Hill was a member of the Harlowton Presbyterian Church, Ruth Circle, Lily of the Valley No. 4 OES Chapter, Odd Fellows Auxiliary, Montana State Practical Nurses Association, Honorary Member of the VFW, president of the Sunday School in Judith Gap and Harlowton, sang in the choir, was active with the youth groups. played in a band in the Judith Gap area and enjoyed china painting. He had been dead several hours and death was attributed to natural causes. Hillson was born December 31, 1901 in England. He move to Canada at an early age, where he received his education. He served in the Canadian Army during World War I. After the war, he moved to Montana and lived in the Lewistown area since that time. He was a retired employee of the Milwaukee Railroad. In later years Hillson spent his winters in California and Arizona. He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses Church. There are not known survivors. He signed up with Naval Flight Training and before graduation he was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the Marine Corps. He finished that war as a captain. He stayed with the reserve long enough to become a Major. Chuck worked with the Soil Conservation Service in Big Sandy, Conrad, Lewistown, Hamilton and Ekalaka. Following that, he worked for the Department of Natural Resources and the Old West Regional Commission as a range management specialist out of Billings. While in Lewistown, he met and married Dorothy Kohl. Raised in agriculture, educated in agriculture, he kept a sharp interest in the field all his life, but it got cut back to a "back-yard garden" in the last few years. He is survived by two brothers, Quinlan of Hobson and Dr. James of Sequim, Wash.; two sisters, Margaret "Peggy" Haight of Spearfish, S.D., and Barbara Anderson of Cooper Landing, Alaska; four children, James Kohl and Kathy Strade of Portland, Ore., and John Kohl and Julie Vigil of Denver, Colorado. After his schooling he served with the Navy during World War I serving with the hospital corps. Dec. 31, 1918 he married Ola May Wilson in New Albany, Indiana. They returned to Lewistown in 1920 and he worked in the Central Montana-area as a surveyor. During the 1910's, he was elected as a Fergus County Commissioner serving three terms. He then went to work for the Soil Conservation Service as a surveyor working for them until the 1960s when he retired and continued to live in Lewistown. His wife preceded him in death in l961. He was a member of the Elks and Eagles Ledges, World War I Barracks, Past Commander of American Legion and a fifty-year member: state commander of World War I Veterans, senior citizens and a past president of county commissioners Association. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John C. (Majorie) Mackey from Atascadera, California, and Mrs. Fred (Nancy) Wagner from St. Louis, Missouri.; two brothers, Theo Hogeland from Lewistown and Barney Hogeland from Nevada City, California; and nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Holland, 96, longtime Central Montana area resident, died, January 7th, at Valle Vista Manor after a short illness. Holland was born Oct. 17, 1889 at St. ALbert, Alberta, Canada, the son of John and Mary Holland. He came to Montana in 1884 and lived in the Utica and Highwood Mountains area. In 1895, Joe and his two sisters were sent to St. Paul's Mission at Hays, Montana where he spent several years and in 1904, he was sent to the Fort Shaw School for Indians. He left the school in 1905 and returned to Utica where he made his home with a sister. In 1909, he returned to Canada with his parents and worked for the Northern Transportation Company, returning to Utica a short time later where he lived until entering the US Army during World War I. He served with the Army in France during 1918 and 1919, returning to Central Montana after his discharge where he worked on ranches in the spring and summer and trapped predatory animals in the winter. From 1938 until 1942, he was employed as a trapper for the Montana Stockgrowers Association. He later worked for many cattle and sheep outfits in Montana and Wyoming and spent his winters in Arizona. Holland made his home in Lewistown since 1972. He loved the outdoors and had been a hunter's guide in recent years. He was a member of the American Legion and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by one nephew, Ted Olsen of Utica; two great-nieces, Gloria Miller of Lewistown and Heather Fellows of Choteau; and five great-nephews, Bob Waite of Moore, Darcy Waite of Utica, Walter Waite of Conrad, Rene Waite of Harrisburg, OR. and Don Waite of Reston, VA. Horacek was born September 11, 1950 in Lewistown, the son of John and Stephanie Horacek. He attended school in Roy, graduating from high school there, and went on to Billings Business College. After his schooling he worked on various ranches in the Central Montana area. He operated the Cenex Station and Bulk Plant in Roy for several years. He then worked for Boeing and was a heavy equipment operator for the Herb Tindall Construction Company for five years. Horacek was working for the Pabco Gypsum Plant in Henderson, Nevada at the time of his death. He was a member of the Lewistown Jaycees and had served in the US Army Reserve for 16 years. Horacek married Cindie S. Killham July 31, 1976 in Lewistown. Survivors include his wife of Lewistown; one daughter, Jamie R. Horacek of Lewistown; his mother and father, Stephanie Skalka and John Horacek, both of Lewistown; five brothers, Dan Horacek of Lewistown, Dale Horacek of Dallas, Texas; David Horacek of San Francisco, California, Bill Horacek of Great Falls, and Ronald Horacek of Kalispell; four sisters Linda Blakemore of Roy, LeAnn Horacek, Cathy Horacek and Sandra Skalka, all of Lewistown; three nieces and two nephews; and Uncles Frank Horacek of Roundup, Ralph Horacek of Grass Range, and Stanley Horacek of Lewistown. ***************************************************************** Frank Horacek Lewistown paper 3-8-1987 Frank Horacek, 80, a former rancher at Roy, died Wednesday morning in the Roundup Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Horacek ranched in the Roy area until 1971 and lived in Lewistown for a short time before settling in Roundup. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing and card playing. He was born in Timken, Kansas, a son of Frank and Rose Horacek. The family lived in the Kansas area until 1910, then moved to the Roy area where he attended schools. Survivors include three brothers, Stan and John, both of Lewistown, and Ralph of Grass Range, and numerous neices and nephews in Montana and Washington. Horacek, 73, Lewistown, died October 30 at Fort Harrison Veterans Hospital after a short illness. He was born January 8, 1917 in Roy, the son of Frank and Rose Horacek. After his education in Roy, he joined the Army and served during world War II. In 1948 he married Stephanie Huculak in Lewistown. He returned to Lewistown after the war and worked in the timber industry for several years. He then worked at the gypsum plant at Heath, prior to go to work for the state highway department, working throughout Montana. After his retirement he returned to live in Lewistown. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW. Mr. Horacek is survived by three daughters, Linda Blakemore of Roy, Cathy and LeAnn Horacek of Lewistown; five sons, Dan of Roy, David and Dale of San Francisco, California, Bill of Lewistown, Ronald of Napa, California; brother Ralph of Roy and Stanley of Lewistown. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald. He was born in Lewistown and attended local schools. He married Ruth Anne Fink, April of 1945 in Hilger. He served in WW II until his discharge in 1947. Horacek worked as a mechanic in Lewistown and moved to cut Bank where he operated a farm. He then moved to California where he worked for Chevrolet and later for GMC. He was employed by GMC motors at the time of his death. He is survived by this wife Ruth; four sons, Jim, Bob. Kenny and Bill; four daughters Evelyn, Marie, Liz and Kathy; his mother Bessie Landa Horacek and numerous grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Joe. He was born March 12, 1963 in Lewistown, the son of John and Stephanie Horacek. He attended school in Lewistown. He moved to California, in 1985 settling in Napa and worked various jobs in Napa and Sacramento. In 1996 he moved to Washington where he was working at a coffee factory at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald. He was born April 30, 1910 in Timken, Kansas, the son of Frank and Rose Horacek. They moved to a homestead east of Roy in 1913, and he received his schooling in country schools near Roy. He ranched with his parents on the homestead until his marriage to Luella Skjestad in 1942 in Lewistown. They ranched in the Roy area until retiring and moving into Lewistown. He entered Valle Vista Manor. She preceded him in death in 1993. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. Hammer of Utica, who delivered very appropriate and comforting words of condolence. The many floral offerings were beautiful. Hull was adjutant secretary of the local organization of Spanish American War Veterans for more than 20 years. The other two remaining Spanish American War veterans are Aaron Remley and Joe Montgomery. Hull was born August 31, 1876 in York, NE, the son of Peter and Hanna Hull. He attended grade and high school in Nebraska. He was employed most of his life as a farmer and carpenter. He was married to Anna Maria Neill in York, NE on April 29, 1903. She died in December of 1944. He married Cora Belle Myers Ditty on June 30, 1946 in Lewistown. She died November 11, 1964.. Hull homesteaded near Roy from 1913 to 1931 when he moved to Lewistown. He had resided at 514 5th Ave. South for 37 years. Hull was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars , and the Spanish American War Veterans. Hunter Billings Gazette vitals 5-15-99 Billings, MT June E. Hunter, 77, of Billings went home to be with the Lord Thursday, May 13, 1999. She was born June 13, 1921, in Winnett, the daughter of Art and Lulu Mae Nelson. She was raised in Winnett and Roundup, completed school and went on to nurses training at the Deaconess Hospital in Billings. She was working in Roundup when she met her future husband, Harry. Harry and June were married July 5, 1946, in Roundup, five weeks after he proposed to her, and raised two children. June worked for Fanny Farmer Candy Co., J.C. Penney, and School District 2 of Billings. She enjoyed her yard and her flowers. She was a volunteer with the HOST program in the schools and the AWANA program in her church. Her hobbies included crocheting and bowling in the senior league at Fireside Lanes. She is survived by her husband, Harry of 53 years; two children, Gayle and her husband, Jerry Kuhbacher of Oshoto, Wyo., and Dave Hunter and his wife, Connie of Billings; and seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Other survivors include Gene Nelson and his wife, Albie of Missoula and Bob Nelson and his wife, Myrt of Fort Collins, Colorado Services will be Monday, May 17, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the First Alliance Church.
