The Rev. Glenn Husby of the Zion Lutheran Church conducted the services, during which Clyde Frederickson, accompanied by Mrs. Richard Lausch, sang "Abide with me" & "The Old Rugged Cross". The floral remembrances were of much beauty and burial rites were held at the Lewistown City cemetery. The casketbearers were Claude White, Howard Dodge, Dave Spoon, Gene Hunt, Hugh Jennings and Guy Dodge. Jess Lacey was born at Fort Benton March 17, 1887, and came to Lewisotwn about 30 years ago. He was married here in 1917 to Miss Dora Kjergaard, who survives him. Surviving children are a daughter, Arlene, living with her mother and three sons. Howard who is in a hospital at Portland, Oregon, for special treatment, Kenneth who was given a medical discharge from the army a year ago and has been living in San Francisco, and Russell, who is serving with the army in Europe. There are also four brothers and two sisters surviving. The son Kenneth, arrived from San Francisco in time to attend his fathers funeral. *****************************************************8 Don A. Lacy passed away at Aspen Meadows Nursing Home, Monday, January 25, 1999, from complications of Alzheimer's. Don was born September 8, 1937, in Lewistown to Jack and Elsie Lacy. He graduated from Fergus County High School and attended college at MSU in Bozeman and at EMC in Billings. Don married Patty Rae Garlock on July 11, 1960, in Columbus. Five children were born to this marriage and he was so proud of all of them. Don was employed at Will James Junior High School prior to his diagnosis and retirement in January of 1992. He was a life member of Ashlar and York Rite Masonic Lodges and a proud, past member of the Al Bedoo Shrine Oriental Band. Don was also a past member of the Elks and Eagles lodges in Lewistown. Don is survived by his wife of 38 years, Patty Rae Lacy of Billings; two sisters, Dorothy (John) Johnson of Butte and Jacqueline Hudis of Great Falls; his five children, Chris (Steve) Hovis of Billings, Tracy (Gene) Ryg of Huntley, Jay A. Lacy of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mark (Dawn) Lacy of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Kirk (Kate) Lacy of Billings; the delight of his life were his seven grandchildren, Jesse and Lane Finley, Lana and Chere' Payovich, Joshua and Jessica Lacy, and Jamie Rae Lacy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse "Jack" and Elsie Weiss Lacy of Lewistown. Cremation has taken place, and in honor of his wishes, an Irish Wake will be held and Don's friends are invited to celebrate his life at the family home at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 1999. Funeral services were held Saturday (today) at the Creel-Morrison-Retz Chapel with Rev. Ron Barr officiating. Loyd Bowen sang and Louise Langford played the organ. Selections included "The Lord's Prayer" and "In The Garden." The pallbearers were Frank Tuss, Joe Siroky, Wayne Lelek, John Siroky, Dick Kalina and V. Hala. The honorary pallbearers were Charles Fah. He came to the United States when he was 22, settling in Cleveland, Ohio where he worked in a textile mill. From there he moved to Oberlin, Ohio and worked on a farm. He next went to Omaha, Nebraska, where he learned the barbering trade. There he met and married Mary Josephine Holoubek. In 1915 they came to Roy and homesteaded and ranched there until 1950 where he moved to Lewistown. He worked at St. Joseph's Hospital and the Northwestern Bank for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, son, Edward, and granddaughter, Janis. Also two sisters in Czechoslovakia, Amalka and Mary. He is survived by three sons, Charles and Victor of Lewistown and Ernest, of Colorado city, Texas; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; his sister Olga, and several nieces and nephews in Czechoslovakia. **************************************************************** Alice B. (Lund) Lettengarver Lewistown paper 8-7-1986 Alice B Lund Lettengarver, 78, of Lewistown. died at her home Monday after Monday after a brief illness. She was born Dec. 11, 1907 at Portage, Wisconsin, the daughter of Ferdinand and Agnes Bauman. She came to Montana in 1907 and lived with her parents at Hinsdale, later moving to Tiger Butte near Great Falls for a short time. Mrs. Lettengarver later moved to Washington before returning to Montana and homesteading with her parents east of Roy. She received her schooling at the Valley View School, 18 miles east of Roy on the Valentine Road. She worked with her mother as a cook for the George Gilpatrick ranch at Hilger and the Yogo Sapphire Mines near Utica. In 1927, she married Gus Lund who was a mining engineer at the mines. After his death in 1927, Mrs. Lettengarver moved to Pendleton, Oregon, where she lived until 1929, returning at that time to homestead east of Roy. In 1935, she married Earl Adams and they lived on the Musselshell River. In 1936 she returned to the ranch where she lived until 1959 when she married William Lettengarver in Lewistown. After her marriage, they lived in Roy for one year before selling the ranch and moving to a ranch west of Suffolk on the Judith River. In 1978, she semi-retired and moved to Lewistown. She remained active with cattle and horses with her daughter in Grass Range. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, Marie Chapter No. 36 Order of Eastern Star, all of Lewistown, and the Salt Creek Community Club. She is survived by her husband, William of Lewistown; one son, Monte Lund of Roy; one daughter, Dolly V. Smith of Grass Range; one brother, Harold W. Bauman of Roy: five grandchildren, Joan M Smith Berg of Lewistown, Jacqueline K. Mrs. Levens worked in Kansas and Montana as a nurses aide and was employed at the State Center for the Aged in Lewistown until her retirement. She was a member of Jehovah's Witness of Lewistown. A complete obituary will be given at a later date. ********************************************************** OTHAR LIMPUS Lewistown paper 7-18-1996 Othar Limpus, 91, former Winifred area rancher, died at his home in Lewistown. Limpus passed away on Tuesday morning, June 18, of natural causes. Born May 8, 1905, in Acton, IN., he was the son of Willard and Aurilla Talbert Limpus He received his early schooling in Indiana and in 1914 he moved with his parents to the homestead northeast of Winifred. He completed his schooling in the Winifred schools, graduating from Winifred High School in 1924 as salutatorian of his class, Later, he attended the University of Montana in Missoula. Limpus was the oldest of eight children, four boys and four girls. On Sept. 9, 1926, he was united in marriage to Marie Peterson. Following their marriage, they continued to live on the homestead for a short time, and then moved to the Salt Creek area. While there they had four children, two boys and two girls. After the death of his father, he and his family returned to the homestead and remained there until his retirement in 1973 when he moved to Lewistown. He was a member of the Christian Men's Society, the Eagles Lodge and the United Methodist Church. Limpus was known for his exceptional wit and good humor. He enjoyed going to church, his coffee club and his family. He also was an avid fan of the Winifred Red Raiders. He is survived by his wife of Lewistown: two sons, Bill of Lewistown, and Mike of Billings, two daughters, Frances Stulc of Winifred, and Shirley Flinders of Mesa, AZ; one brother, Leroy Limpus of New Boston, Texas: two sisters, Lucille Clark of Big Timber, and Gladys Baquet of Choteau; 18 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren: and numerous nieces and nephews. Lipp, 68, passed away on May 8.A memorial service will be held in Lewistown. ************************************************************** HERMAN L LODE Lewistown paper 8-26-1981 Herman L Lode of Lewistown died suddenly at his home on Spring Creek Road early Wednesday morning. He was 75 years old. The cause of his death was apparently a heart attack. Lode was born on March 13, 1906 in Kalamazoo, MI. At an early age the family moved to Mitchell, SD, where he received his early schooling. In 1918 he moved to Harlowton where he completed his schooling. While there, he worked on the family ranch 17 miles northwest of town. On June 29, 1930, he was married to Erma Caton in Lewistown. After his marriage he moved to the Lewistown area, where he resided until the time of his death. Lode ran the Fergus County Rest Home for nine years and at the time of his death he was employed on the Dick Tresch Ranch. He was a member of the Lewistown Moose Lodge, the Legion of the Moose and the American Baptist Church of Billings. He is survived by his wife Emma of Lewistown; his daughter Helen Anderson of Billings; his sisters, Fannie Pickens of Billings and Jenny Grandy. Yuma, AZ; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. After their marriage they lived for several years in Hobson. They then moved to a ranch at Castle Butte, south of Lewistown, where she and her husband were partners on a ranch. She worked with her husband until his death in 1982 and then moved to Lewistown where she lived until 1985. She moved to Great Falls after that. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Jack and Charlie. Survivors include two daughters Betty Jean Pettibone of Great Falls and Linda Langford of Lewistown; a son Richard Long of Lewistown; six sisters, Mary Rellich of Washington, Rosie Knapp of Hilger, Lillian Pospisil of Moore, Millie Griffith of Lewistown, Sylvia Lyda of Kansas and Albina Bawden of Lewistown; two brothers Lewis Martinec and Steve Martinec, both of Oregon; and nine grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Monday, March 27, at 11 a m in the Creel- Morrison-Retz Chapel. Mrs. Lovas of Billings died Monday in the St. Vincent's Hospital following a long history of Chronic heart and lung problems. She was born in Lewistown, the daughter of Hugh and Leona Bowman. She was raised in Forest Grove, received her education in Lewistown and Seattle, Washington. She married Ario Wilcox and they lived in Roy and Lewistown. He preceded her in death in 1965. She then married Chester B. Lovas in Lewistown and they lived in Anchorage, Alaska. He preceded her in death in 1971. She has lived in Billings since 1980. She is survived by one daughter, Sol Lovas of Billings; and one brother, Marlowe Bowman of Helena. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 3 pm Thursday in the Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary in Billings. A graveside memorial will be 2 pm, Friday in the Lewistown Cemetery. In memory of 1988 Elaine B. Lovas died April 11, 1988. All who were acquainted with Elaine knew her joy of life, her generosity of spirit, and her warmth and caring. Those who knew her well knew the health and personal trials she faced, and how valiantly she fought to live her life in that way. She lived her life with rage courage, determination, grace and style, an example to us all. She had many good things in her life. She was blessed with two husbands who cherished her, a daughter who loved and cared for her, close friends and family who supported her. In return she enriched their lives with wit and wisdom, and her spiritual gifts and guidance, freely shared. Elaine believed the Spirit of God lies within each of us, and it is our responsibility to understand this and act accordingly. The flame of her spirit burned too brightly for the physical vessel she wore, but that flame will be a legacy of inspiration to those who knew her for all time. Lowery Billings Gazette Vitals 4-20-1999 Billings, MT MOORE - Frieda I. Lowery, 82, of Moore, died Sunday afternoon at the Central Montana Skilled Nursing Center of natural causes. She was born August 26, 1916, in Rocky Ford, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of Carl and Frieda Schulz. She received her education in Bridgeport, Nebraska, and completed Beauty School. She moved to Harlowton and in the late 1930s she was united in marriage to Maurice Martin there. They owned and operated the Montana Hotel until his death in 1966. She continued to operate the hotel and opened a gift shop in the hotel also. On June 13, 1976, she was united in marriage to Glen Lowery in Harlowton. They operated the hotel and gift shop for about one year, they then sold the business and moved to Moore. He preceded her in death in 1980. She continued to live in Moore until November of 1998 when she entered the Skilled Nursing Center. Frieda enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, collecting and restoring antiques and was accomplished at fly tying. Her parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Lund, 64, of Winnett, and a former Roy area resident died Saturday afternoon in a Roundup hospital of natural causes. He was born Feb. 28, 1928 in Pendleton, Oregon, the son of Gus and Alice Lund. He came to Montana in 1929, and attended Valley View and Roy schools. graduating in 1946. After graduating, he went into partnership on the family ranch with his uncle, Harold Bauman, and grandmother. Agnes Bauman in 1953, Monte, along with Don and Margaret Harvey, did custom combining locally and along the High line. He also did a lot of electrical wiring, sometimes wiring with Don. In 1958, Monte ran a crew installing telephone lines in the Winifred area as well as other areas, but always made his home at the ranch, and used his earnings to improve the ranch. In 1959, he rented the Jim Jackson place on Dovetail, and lived. there looking after of the cattle. He lived there for five years. On June 4, 1961, he was united in marriage to Donna Williams in Billings. They had two children. Over the years, Monte had helped increase the size of the ranch, where they raised horses, sheep, and Hereford cattle. In 1992, the ranch that had been in the family for 79 years and four generations, was sold and a new one purchased south of Winnett. Monte was excited about the change, and eager to improve the new ranch. He enjoyed the ranch life, and did what he enjoyed until the end. His wife and children are continuing the ranch to fulfill Monte's dream. He is survived by his wife. Donna, one son, Tye, and one daughter, Terrena Young, all of Winnett: one sister, Dolly Smith of Billings, nieces Joan Berg of Lewistown and Jacqueline Rich of Suffolk and one nephew, Vaughn Smith of Billings. He was preceded in death by his parents one uncle, Harold Bauman and grandmother, Agnes Bauman. He was a member of Lewistown Lodge NO. 37 AF and AM, the Al Bedoo Shrine of Billings and Rimrock Chapter Order of Eastern Star of Winnett. Funeral services for Monte B. Lund were at the Cloyd Chapel Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. with interment following in the Lewistown city Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Carlson, Dick Kalina, Al McRae, Torger Sikveland, Bob Weingart and Hap Zahn, and all of Monte's many friends. Interment followed in the Lewistown City Cemetery with Masonic Honors at the Chapel by Lewistown Lodge No. 37, AF/AM.
