Lewistown, died Friday evening at her home following an extended illness She was born June 17, 1880. in Fairfield, Iowa, the daughter of George and Lydia White. She attended the Franklin School in Fairfield and graduated from High School there in 1898. She continued to live there and on Dec 11, 1900. she was united in marriage to John R. Quickenden in her parents home in Fairfield They continued to live there until 1905 when they moved to Montana and homesteaded on the old Tom Murray ranch near the town of Hobson. In 1908 they bought a ranch on Castle Creek and lived there until 1943 when they sold the ranch and moved into Lewistown. In 1946 they bought a ranch south of town and resided there until January 1954 when Quickenden passed away. She then moved to Lewistown and lived with her daughters until the time of her death Mrs. Quickenden was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Lewistown, the Drama Club end the Casino Creek Home Demonstration Club. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents. two brothers, two half-brothers, and one half-sister Mrs. Quickenden is survived by three daughters. Mrs. John (Irene) Brinkman and Mrs. Henry (Lucile) McVey, both of Lewistown and Mrs. Carl (Lois) Thompson of Billings; one sister-in-law Winifred Dixon of Kalispell: several grandchildren and great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews including Agnes Gervais of Lewistown. Funeral services for Mrs. Quickenden will be Monday afternoon at 3 in the Cloyd Chapel with Rev. Gordon Parke of the United Presbyterian Church officiating Interment to follow in the Lewistown City Cemetery. Rahler, 94, Great Falls, former Central Montana resident, died Tuesday in a rest home in Great Falls. She was born in Illinois Dec. 5, 1883, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Burgard. As a young child she went with her parents to Missouri and received her schooling there. She married John J Rahler in 1906 at Warrensburg; Missouri. They moved to Fergus in 1919 and engaged in farming. After his death in 1952 she stayed on the farm another six years, then moved into Lewistown where she worked nine years as a housekeeper. She moved to Great Falls in July, 1968, to be near her son Surviving are her son, Harry R. Rahler, Great Falls: a grandson. John W Rahler, Great Falls; and two great grandchildren Her funeral will be Friday at 2 p m in the Creel-Morrison-Retz Funeral Home in Lewistown. with Rev Gordon Parke officiating. Burial will follow in the Lewistown City Cemetery. **************************************************************** Ralph A. (Pat) Rambo Lewistown paper 1991 Ralph A. (Pat) Rambo, 76, of Lewistown, died of natural causes Monday morning, Dec. 30, at Central Montana Medical Center. He was born April 6, 1915 in Havre, the son of Ruben and Alta Rambo. He received his education in Hingham, graduating from the high school there. He entered the U.S. Army and served in the Philippines during World War II. After his discharge he returned to Montana an worked in the oil fields near Kevin. Later he worked for a rural electric cooperative in Shelby until 1950, when he moved to Lewistown and began working for Montana Power Co. On June 2, 1956, he was married to June V. McLaughlin in Lewistown. He retired from MPC in 1975. continuing to live in Lewistown until his death. Pat enjoyed horseback riding, was a lifetime member of the Fergus County Sheriffs Posse and a member of the Eagles Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, two sisters end one brother. Survivors include his wife. June, Lewistown; one son, Russell Gardner of Anaheim, California: one stepson, Fred S. Bourke of Billings: one brother, Jack of Missoula: two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Gwen) Lee of Kalispell and Mrs.. Robert (Fay) Swanson of Great Falls: four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Cloyd Chapel. Source Billings Gazette ************************************************************ May Rathbun Lewistown paper May Rathbun who served in the Fergus County Clerk ad Recorder's office as deputy clerk and recorder and clerk and recorder for 27 years, died suddenly Wednesday morning May 10, following surgery. She was 71. A Lewistown resident all of her life, she was born August 21, 1917, in Lewistown, daughter of Edward and Sarah Titter. She graduated from Fergus High School in 1934. After her schooling she worked In Lewistown as a bookkeeper for several businesses, After the death of her first husband, Quincey Godbey, she continued to work in Lewistown and then married Jim Rathbun June 14, 1952 in Havre. She was appointed deputy County Clerk and Recorder in 1955 and appointed Fergus County Clerk and Recorder in 1960. She was then elected clerk and recorder in 1961 and served in that office until December of 1982. Recently she worked as a bookkeeper for Lewistown Lumber and for Land Title Company; She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, past president of the Montana State Clerk and Recorders Association in 1970 and 1971. Dave McConnell officiating. ************************************************************ Margaret Fergus Rauch Lewistown Paper died 10-15-1969 Mrs. Margaret Fergus Rauch, 93, member of a prominent central Montana pioneer family and residents of this area for 87 years, died Wednesday morning in St. Joseph's Hospital. She came to the area as a child, traveling by river boat and covered wagon. Mrs. Rauch was the niece of James Fergus, early Montana pioneer for whom this county was named. She was born April 23, 1876, at Highlowside, near Edinburgh, Scotland, the daughter of William and Ellen Hamilton Fergus. When she was six years old she came to American with her parents and her eight brothers and sisters. They came up Missouri River to Fort Benton and continued on by covered wagon to their homestead in the Fergus-Armells area of central Montana. Mrs. Rauch received her schooling in central Montana. She was married to John B. Rauch in 1896. Three of their five children survive, including J. B. Rauch of Helena, W. Fergus Rauch of Tucson, Arizona and Mrs. Walter (Norma) Miller of Great Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband John B. Rauch, and two daughters, Mrs. David (Judith) Davidsen and Margaret Rauch. Mrs. Rauch is also survived by seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, including W. N. Landru of Lewistown. She was the last surviving member of her Scottish family. Mrs. Rauch was a charter member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lewistown, a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Pioneers of Montana. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10 a m at the Cloyd Funeral Home with the Rev. George Barnhart of the First United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot at the Lewistown City Cemetery. The casket will be open for view until the time of the service when it will be closed and remain closed. "Buffalo" Rellich, 78 passed away Monday morning, February 23 at the Roundup Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born March 3, 1919 to Joe and Mary (Martinec) Rellich at Roy. He spent his childhood on the family farm, attending school in Roy. He participated in the civilian Conservation Corps in 1936. "Buff" took over the family farm northeast of Roy and operated it until 1976. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Staples in December, 1962. She preceded him in death September 30, 1970. He moved to Shepherd, and then to Roundup until the time of his death. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and enjoyed taking kids along on these outings. Summertime usually found numerous nieces and nephews and other youngsters experiencing and enjoying "life on the farm." Rellick was a lifetime member of the American Angus Association and a past member of the Eagles in Lewistown. Survivors include his sisters, Evelyn Olsen of Billings, Helen Downing of Great Falls and Rosemary Rorabach of Kingston, Washington; step-children, Sally Holmes of Page, Arizona, Laura O'Meara of Teigen, Gail Wahl of Great Falls and Warren Staples of Henderson, Kentucky; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Retz, 80, a Lewistown resident for many years, died at the Deaconess Skilled Nursing center in Great Falls, Wednesday morning after a lengthy illness. Born May 31, 1907, at Fountain City, IN to Carl and Alice Retz. He moved to Polson with his parents in 1909. He attended Polson Schools graduating from high school there in 1925. He then attended Intermountain Union College in Helena in 1927 and 1928 and graduated from Worsham Mortuary School in Chicago in 1929. He then worked for the Selby Funeral Home in Livingston, and then for the Merrill Mortuaries in Livingston, Butte and Missoula, and also for his father Carl Retz at the Retz Funeral Home in Polson. In 1932, he became associated with the Creel Funeral Home in Lewistown and lived in Lewistown until 1945, when he moved to Helena to become associated with his brothers in the Retz Funeral Home there. He was a member of the Helena Elks, Kiwanis, chamber of commerce, past president of the Montana Club and past president of the Montana Funeral Directors Association. He returned to Lewistown in 1953 and became associated with the Fad Clothing Store and the Creel Funeral Home until his retirement in 1984. He was one of the founders of the Western Invitational Basketball Tournament held in Lewistown each year, a nationally known event which was featured in Sports Illustrated. The past tournament was dedicated to him. He was preceded in death by his wife Irene in November 1986 and by one daughter, Patricia Pipinich in October of 1986. Survivors include his son, Robert M. After her graduation she taught school in Moccasin, Circle and Hobson She married Ray W Robinson May 28, 1955 in Moore. She was the school secretary in Moore for several years following her marriage Mrs. Robinson and her husband purchased the Moore Grocery in 1971 and operated it until 1981 when ill health forced her to retire. She was a member of the American Legion. Rossiter Lewistown paper 1950 Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon from Creel's Chapel for Rolland R. Rossiter with the Rev. C. W. Orner of the Presbyterian church. Rossiter died Feb. 15 In York Nebraska, where he had been making his home with his sister. Gwin, Charles G. Edwards, Harry L. Hull, Aaron Remley, Dr. W. R. Hopkins and Tom Tottingham. Rolland R. Rossiter was born at York Nebraska, June 2,1876 He enlisted in Company A, First Regiment of Nebraska volunteers at Lincoln, Nebraska, on April 27, 1898. Rossiter served during the Spanish-American war and the Philippine insurrection and was finally discharged on August. 23, 1899, at the Praesidio in San Francisco California, when his regiment was mustered out. He was married to Mabel Montgomery June 13, 1905 at York Nebraska and in 1913 the couple came to Fergus County, homesteading east of Roy where they made their home for 21 years. They then moved to Christina where Mrs. Rossiter taught school for four years. Mr. and Mrs. Rossiter came to Brooks in 1938 where she taught school, and they lived there for seven years. After residing in Roy for two more years,: they moved to Lewistown where they made their home until Mrs. Rossiter's death in March, 1948. Since then. Mr. Rossiter had spent the winters with Mr. and Mrs. Hesler in York, Nebraska, and the summers near Brooks. Mr. Rossiter was a member of William Meyersick Camp No 15, Spanish-American War Veterans and the Presbyterian church at Roy. Survivors include sisters, Mrs. Peter Hesler and Mrs. Ed Fitzpatrick of York Nebraska, and Mrs. Elmer E. Royal, 87, of Lewistown died Wednesday afternoon at Valle Vista after an extended illness. She was born Dec. 29, 1888 near Hamilton at The See Ranch in the Bitterroot valley, the first daughter of William and Nelli Richardson. She received her schooling in the Hamilton Schools and graduated from Hamilton High School. After graduation, Mrs. Royal attended Dillon Normal College. While in college, she started her teaching career in one room school houses, where she taught all grades and built the fires to keep the children warm. She continued her career by teaching primary grades in Moore, Simms, Great Falls and Roy. In 1925, while teaching at Moore, she met Robert Royal, and Oct. 16, 1928 married him in Great Falls. After her marriage, she and her husband moved to Lewistown where they made their home until her death. Their only child, Gayle Marlene, was born June 16, 1936. Mrs.. Royal was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Women and a Church Circle. She was also a member of the Central Montana Retired Teachers Association and the Federated Women's Club. She is survived by her husband, Robert, of Lewistown; one daughter, Gayle Fry of Hartsburg, Missouri.; two grandchildren, Cindy and Randy Fry, both of Columbia, Missouri.; one sister, Florence Pugh of Omaha, Nebraska.; and several nieces and nephews. She war preceded in death by her parent, two sisters and two brothers Funeral services were held from the United Methodist Church Tuesday at 10 a.m, with Rev. Dave McConnell officiating. Interment followed in the Lewistown City Cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements Grace Pennock played the organ and Calle Jenni sang "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "How Great Thou Art." Pallbearers were Al Bigelow, Walter Elliot, Bill Gwin, Ernie Hruska, Elliot Landheim, Bill Mane and Paul Stengel. Friends wishing to do so may make memorials to the United Methodist Church which may be left at the funeral home. ****************************************************** Mary (Steen) Ruona Mary (Steen) Ruona, 78, Lewistown, died of natural causes early Thursday morning at the Central Montana Medical Center Nursing Home. She was born June 27, 1914 at Willow Flats, Montana, the daughter of Vaclaf and Anna Hanel. She received her education in Miles City and on Sept 7, 1935, she was married to Orville Steen. They lived in Miles City until 1946 when they moved to Wolf Point. He died in 1963. She continued living in Wolf Point and on August. 30, 1968, she was married to William Ruona. They lived on his ranch at Buffalo, SD until his death in 1974. In me mid-1970s she moved to Sleeping Buffalo, Montana. In 1979 she moved to Lewistown where she lived until her death. Besides her two husbands she was preceded in death by two brothers and her parents. Survivors include one son, Stan Seen of Lewistown one daughter, Linda Bradley of Lewistown; two stepsons, Alvin Ruona of Kadoka, SD. and Sherman Ruona of Cannon City, Colorado; two stepdaughters, Judy Augare and Jan Pedrotti, both of Buffalo, SD, three brothers, Frank Hanel of Wolf Point, Tony Hanel of Columbia Falls and Tom Hanel of Miles City; one sister, Annie Farnes of Grass Range six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren ad numerous nieces and nephews. Services for Mary (Steen) Ruona were Saturday in the Cloyd chapel.
