Satterfield, 80, long time Roy area resident died suddenly at his home Friday afternoon. Satterfield was born September 8, 1891 at Pleasant Hill, Missouri, the son of Mr. & Mrs. John William Satterfield. He received his education in Pleasant Hill and worked several years in a grocery store there. He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Myers at Pleasant Hill, March 23, 1912. He moved to Montana in 1914 and homesteaded in the Roy area. Except for two years he lived in the Castle area south of Lewistown, Satterfield had lived in the Roy area. He retired in 1958 and moved to Roy, where he made his home until the time of his death. Satterfield was a member of Friendship Lodge No. 139 AF&&AM of Lewistown, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Methodist Church in Pleasant Hill. He is survived by his widow, Mary Ellen, Roy, two sons John of Roy, and Jesse of Fergus, one daughter Mary Alice Muschbacher, San Diego, California, one brother Herbert Satterfield, Kansas City, Missouri, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. On Oct. 22, 1941, he was united in marriage to Harriette Lucier in Hilger. They farmed at Hilger for three years and then in the Maiden area until retiring. They have lived in Lewistown for the last several years. Lambert loved his family and the outdoors. He was a farmer that loved the land and lived to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, the Eagles and Moose lodges of Lewistown, served on the Brooks School Board and the A.S.C.S. Committee. The son of Thomas and Margret Sharpe, he was born August 25, 1904, in Dunfermline, Scotland. In 1907, his family emigrated to Dacono, Colo., where he received his education, graduating in 1918. He graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a degree in mechanical engineering and maintained his loyalties to their football team until his death. He married Dora Bebout, with whom he had two sons. She preceded him in death in 1937. He worked as a manufacturer's representative in both the food and automotive industries, as a part-time salesperson, and as a farmer/rancher. He was united in marriage to Lillian Bogut. Together, they ran the White Star Laundry in Great Falls, the Swiss Cleaners and later the Wash House in Lewistown, where he finally settled in 1945. Lillian died in 1959. A friend of presidents and congressmen who love to discuss politics, Tom was an active member of the Republican Party until his retirement and was an outspoken advocate of women's rights across the nation. He devoted his energies for over a decade to the Lewistown Library Board and was a member of Rotary International, the Al Bedoo Temple, and the Masons. He took great pride in his lifetime membership in the Elks. He married Dr. Virginia Olsen of Lewistown on June 10, 1976. Always adventurous, Tom enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling with his wife in their motorhome, and working in his yard. He was equally delighted to watch prize fights on television or the sunsets from his front porch. He will be remembered by family and friends as an involved citizen, a thoughtful husband, and a gentle man. Tom is survived by his wife, Virginia; two brothers in Colorado, Andrew of Fort Lupton,and Jack of Dacono; two sons, Thomas and his wife, Darlene of Billings, Richard and his wife, Doris of Arlington, Texas; a stepdaughter, Leslie Bray and her husband, Brian of Graham, N.C.; one niece, Mary Ann Sharpe of Las Vegas; eight grandchildren, Sandra Sept and Tammy Prout of Helena, Paula Paulson of Lewistown, Tina Steffen of Livingston, Kathi Tonstad of Billings, Rick Sharpe and Sherry Andrus of Minnesota, and Susan Clark of Texas; and 14 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Elizabeth (Bessie) Sheldon, 73 died Wednesday at Lynwood, Washington, where she was living with a son. She had been ill a long time. Her sister, Mrs. Amy Lou Covert, 69 died suddenly Sunday at Corvallis, Montana, where she also lived with a son. Both women grew up in the Winnett area. Mrs. Sheldon was born September 5, 1902 at Valdez, Alaska and also grew up at Winnett. She and her husband, Frank Sheldon were married at Winnett. They lived there and at Cat Creek before moving to Spokane, Washington. Her husband died in 1961. She is survived by three brothers, Cecil Busby of Snoqualmie, Washington, Wayne Busby of Issaquah, Washington and Bud Busby of Ticonderoga, NY. Mrs. Sheldon's survivors include two sons, Francis Sheldon of Lynwood, Washington, and Cecil Sheldon of Seattle, Washington; three daughters, Mrs. Ann Thain, Mrs. Shirley Johnson and Mrs. Joyce Dusky, all of Spokane, Washington; and several grandchildren. She received her education in Chicago and remained there until her marriage to Otis Sidener on Oct. 16, 1917 in Alexandria, Indiana. In 1978, they moved to Lewistown, where she worked in the human services field, and in 1979, they came to Livingston. For the past 18 years, she has been employed as the office manager of Family Chiropractic Center, David Thiry, D.C. She loved spending time with her family and traveling, especially Hawaiian vacations and motorcycle trips with her husband. She also enjoyed doing crafts and sewing. Nancy is remembered as being a wonderful mother, wife, friend, and mentor to those who knew her. Her gracious and sincere nature will eternally teach lessons of love for one another. Her love and memory continue through her family, which include her husband, Dale D. She also enjoyed being with her family and was a member or the Roy Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Siroky died late Thursday evening at the Central Montana Hospital following an extended illness. She was 73. She was born Aug. 21 1914 at Worden, Montana, the daughter of Alois and Anna Kostoryz. She received her schooling in the Worden schools and graduated from Huntley Project High School in l932. She later attended Eastern Montana College and taught In a rural school near Roy. On June 10, 1935 she married Joe Siroky in Billings. She is survived by her husband, Joe of Roy; two son, Ken and Roger, both of Roy; and one sister, Frances Kostoryz of Lewistown. He was born January 1, 1908, in Austria the son of John and Mary (Farnik) Siroky Sr., the fourth of 13 children. He immigrated with his family to a homestead eight miles northeast of Roy at the age of 5 and received his schooling in Roy-area schools. In 1934 he was employed on the construction project of Fort Peck Dam. He was united in marriage to Helen Ann Kostoryz in Billings on June 10, 1935, in a double ceremony with his brother, John and his wife, Marie Fadrhonc. He has farmed and ranched in the Roy area, with his father, brothers and sisters and later with his wife and sons, all of his life. The ranching occupied his time even during retirement. He prided himself on being timely and attentive in the care of his livestock and property. During the 1950s and '60s Joe and his wife of 53 years especially enjoyed Herefords and raised and sold bulls in Central Montana. Joe was a member of the Roy Presbyterian Church and the Farmers Union. Siroky, 70, of Lewistown died early Tuesday, June 5, at the Central Montana Medical center of cancer, She was born November 23, 1919, in Verdigre, Nebraska, a daughter of Charles and Josephine Havlicek, and received her education in Verdigre, graduating from high school in 1936. She lived at home helping to raise her brother and sister after her mother's death in 1938. Following her father's death in 1941, she remained on the farm raising her brother and sister. On June 15, 1946 she was united in marriage to Jim Siroky in Neligh, Nebraska and they moved to Montana settling near Roy where they farmed. While living in the Roy area she taught Bible School at the Roy Presbyterians Church, Farmers Union classes at Bohemian Hall and was an active member of the Valley View Extension Homemakers Club. They sold the ranch near Roy to their nephew and moved to Lewistown in 1973. Mr. Siroky died in 1977. Mrs. Siroky enjoyed sewing and crocheting and wrote a Siroky Family History for the Roy History Book. Her home and her family were always the center of her life. She is survived by one son, Allen of Springfield, Massachusetts, four daughters, Annette Vanek of Belt, Debbie Newton and Valerie Lucas, both of Lewistown: Judy Woodard of Billings,; one brother, Ed Havlicek of Verdigre, Nebraska; one sister, Frances Sexton of Lincoln, Nebraska; eight grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Smith served as the mayor of Lewistown during 1960 and 1961. Funeral services were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. In the Creel-Morrison-Retz Chapel with Father Mike Ley officiating. Interment was in the Calvary Cemetery with military honors by Lewistown American Legion Post No. 16. Memorial to the Cardiac Care Unit of the Central Montana Hospital or the Salvation Army are preferred by the family. Smith was born October 31, 1895 in Ames, Kansas the son of Daniel and Cora Smith. He received his schooling in Kansas. After his schooling he joined the Army and served for 30 months In the artillery in France during World War I. After his discharge he returned to Kansas and then came to Montana with his brother-in-law in 1920 to farm and ranch on East Fork, south of Lewistown. In 1927 he purchased his own ranch on East Fork ad operated that until 1930 when they moved into Lewistown and he worked for a gas station. In 1938 he started his own service station, known as Neal's Texaco and operated that until he retired in 1961. Smith was a member of the Elk's, Past Exalted Ruler, Eagles, Moose, past commander of Lewistown Legion Post No. 16, past commander of World War I Veterans, member of Kiwanis ad VFW, participated in the local chamber of commerce and was a Lewistown City Alderman. He married Florence I. Davidson in Lewistown in 1922. Burial was in the Roy Cemetery. *************************************************** Joel Steiner Lewistown paper 2-15-1969 Joel Steiner, 77, prominent Lewistown resident for many years, died Friday evening at Valle Vista Manor following a lengthy illness. He was particularly well known for his association with the Lewistown Elks Band. A charter member of the organization, he served as its manager for several years. Longtime residents of the area will recall he was one of the most popular of all the band members and was a real showman. Active in the Elks Lodge for many years, he was a life member of the Lewistown Lodge, and its past exalted ruler, was past district deputy of Montana Elks and a past president of the Montana State Elks Association. Steiner was born June 12, 1891, in Great Falls, the son of Mrs. and Mrs. Joel Steiner. He was married to Irene Ann Dowd November 28, 1911, in Lewistown. He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church. He was employed by the Hub Clothing for many years, but was retired at the time of his death. He is survived by a son, Joe Steiner, of Auburn, Washington, and a grandson, Joe Mathews, who is attending Eastern Montana College in Billings. He was preceded in death by his wife and one daughter, Vivian Mathews, both in 1962. Requiem mass will be held Tuesday at 10 a m at St. Leo's Catholic Church with interment in the Calvary cemetery. She was born May 16, 1902 in Protivin, Iowa, the daughter of Frank ad Stella Cimrhakl Sr. In 1913 they moved from Iowa to a homestead 10 miles north of Roy. She attended country school near Roy. She then worked-as a housekeeper in Lewistown. On Oct 10, 1932 she was united in marriage to Frank Stepan in Lewistown. They lived on Frank's homestead 18 miles north of Roy. They raised hay, cattle, chickens and milk cows They sold their ranch in 1938 and moved into Roy. Frank managed the Roy Farmer's Union Oil Co. Service Station and Lizzie was the bookkeeper for may years. They retired ad lived in Roy until his death in 1967. She continued living in Roy until 1989 when she moved to the CMMC nursing center following several major surgeries Lizzie enjoyed bingo, cooking classes and her family. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Roy. She is survived by one brother, Frank Cimrhakl of Roy; one sister, Adeline Gaine of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; Several nieces and nephews including Bonnie McDowell of Coeur d'Alene, Virginia Durrin of Portland, Ore, Judy Thompson, Lily Burnett, Pearl Smith, Bob and Dan Cimrhakl all of Roy, George and Ed Jakes of Lewistown. He was born June 14, 1892 in Sargent, NB., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stepan, and received his schooling in Nebraska. Stepan came to Montana in 1914 and homesteaded in the Winifred area. In 1917 he entered the Army and after his discharge in 1919 homesteaded 16 miles north of Roy. He married Elizabeth Cimrhakl October, 1932, in Lewistown. In the late 1930s he moved to Roy where he managed the Farmers Union Station until his retirement in 1958. He was a member of the Roy American Legion Post No. 96. Besides his widow he is survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be from the Cloyd chapel Friday at 2pm with the Rev. Ron McConkey of the First Christian Church officiating. Story Lewistown paper 1-16-1985 Lewistown, MT. Fergus County Fred B. Story, 88, Lewistown died Saturday evening at his home-following an extended illness. He was born Dec.25, l896 in Marshall, MN the son of Albert L. and Sarah Story. He received his education in Beaver Creek, MN and mechanical training in Kansas City, MO. He came to Montana in 1917 with his brothers Percy and Jack Story. They homesteaded seven miles west of Winnett and Fred began working at the Roy French Garage in Grass Range. Sept. 18, 1918 he married Ruby P. Runnalls in Lewistown. They lived in Winnett where he was employed at Faragher's Garage and later ran the Winkes Light Plant at Winnett. He also worked as a Jailer and Deputy Sheriff for Petroleum County and he was a water commissioner and ambulance driver. In 1941 they moved to Bremerton, WA and worked in the shipyards returning to Winnett in l946, where he operated the Light Plant and installed irrigation pumps for ranchers along the Mussellshell River. In 1952 they moved to Lewistown and he worked for 15 years at the Center for the Aged as a maintenance man. After his retirement he worked as a jailer for Fergus County and later opened his own Precision Saw Sharpening Shop in his home. He later sold his business and began making minature furniture as a hobby. Story was a member of Jerusalem Masonic Lodge No. 115 of Winnett, York Rite Bodies, Central Montana Shrine Club of Lewistown, AlBedoo Shrine Club of Billings and Marie Chapter No. 36 OES of Lewistown and Rimrock Chapter No. 82 OES of Winnett. He was born May 19, 1915 in Huron, SD, the son of Francis and Alta Mae (Halfacker) Styer. He spent his early life and received his schooling in Huron and then worked for Armor Packing Co. of Huron. In 1931 he moved to Montana and settled near Roy, working on a ranch for Walt Haney. On June 29, 1935 he was united in marriage to Mildred Ellis in Lewistown. He worked on a ranch north of Roy until 1942. He then worked for John McVey on a ranch on Upper Spring Creek south of Lewistown until 1947. They then moved back to Roy and ranched east of Roy until the time of his death. He is survived by his wife of Roy; one daughter, Alta Mae Rodencal of Lewistown; one son, Jack Styer of Lewistown; one brother, Lee; one half brother, William; three half sisters, Hazel Ann and Betty Lou, all of Huron; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. On June 30, 1918, she was married to Harry H. Surber in Lewistown. They homesteaded the Armells area and later ranched in the Christina area. They moved to Lewistown in 1938 to operate a dairy north of Lewistown. They retired in 1951 and her husband died in 196O. Mrs. Surber was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Eagles Auxiliary, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, the World War One Veterans Auxiliary and the Senior Citizens Club. Swanson was born Oct. 8, 1895, at North Mankato, MN., the son of Charles and Agda Swanson. He received his schooling at North Mankato and spent his early life there. In 1911, he moved with his parents to Montana and homesteaded near Novary, in the Cheadle area. In 1918 he entered the service serving with the Army in World War One. After his discharge, Swanson lived in Minneapolis, MN. for a time before moving back to Montana and settling in Lewistown where he had made his home until the time of his death. He was employed by the Lewistown Elks Club for 21 years. March 17, 1931,he married Mildred Hanson in Great Falls. She preceded him in death in 1972. Swanson was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 456, the Eagles Lodge No. 374, and the American Legion all of Lewistown. He is survived by two daughters, Janet Rife of Roy and Erlys Bartels of Miles City; one brother, Clifford Swanson of Livingston grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one grandchild in addition to his wife.
