Jesse Donald Abel Lewistown Paper - 3-27-1987 Jesse Donald Abel, 81, longtime Lewistown resident, died Friday morning at the Central Montana Hospital after an extended illness. He was born June 3, 1905 at Monona, IO, the son of August and Mamie Abel. He received his schooling at Monona and spent his early life there. On October 3, 1927 he married Bertha Pixler in McGregor, IA. In 1937 they moved to Lewistown where he operated the Tee Pee Gas Station and later the Texaco Service Station. After selling his station Abel went to work as a self-employed mechanic at his shop at his residence. He retired in 1982 and since that time he had continued to live in Lewistown. He was a member of the Lewistown Eagles Lodge. Abel is survived by his wife, Bertha of Lewistown, one son, Donald Dean Abel of Stoughton, WI; one sister Fern Bixemam of Denver, CO; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Organist Barbara Harchenko accompanied Tony Brown on “The Green Green Grass of home:” and “Just a closer Walk with Thee.” Pallbearers were Clayton Barkhoff, Eldon Beck, Bob Dion, Rad Pratt, Jack Shaver and Arthur Tucker. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Barney, Bill Mee, Russell Johnson and Austin Tayer. Interment was in the Lewistown City Cemetery. Friend wishing to do so may make memorials to central Montana Hospital and they may be left at the funeral home.
