Barrows, 77 former Central Montana Sunday School missionary, died suddenly Wednesday of a heart attack while playing chess with a friend in Oakland, CA, according to word received here. A great lover of chess, Mr. Barrows was playing a game with an old friend with whom he used to carry on chess games through the mail, when he died, his son Frank of Lewistown said here today. He will be buried Tuesday at North Loup, NE. next to his wife, who died in Lewistown in 1928. Mr. Barrows was born December 27, 1873, in Illinois and spent his boyhood in the Dakota territory. Later he went to Nebraska where he married Rosella Thomas. In 1905 he came west to Idaho and homesteaded in 1910 at Fort Benton. He came to Lewistown in 1919 as a Sunday School missionary and lived here until 1928 when he moved to North Dakota and then to Alaska. For the past few years he has been staying with his daughter, Mrs. Harry (Emma) Brubaker in Sheldon, IL. Recently he went to visit a son, Eugene in Saugus, CA. He is survived by two sons, Frank of Lewistown and Eugene of Saugus, CA; four daughters, Mrs. Brubaker, Mrs. Roland (Ruth) Owen of Lincoln. NE; Mrs. Cloyd Ingerson of North Loup, NE and Mrs. Douglas (Bessie) Brown near San Francisco; two brothers Alfred E. Barrows of Washington, D C and Truman Barrows of Hansen NE. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Barrows left Lewistown this morning to attend the funeral at North Loup, NE.
