Messier Mrs. Ruth M Messier. 81, a resident of this area for many years, died Thursday afternoon at the Central Montana Hospital alter a long illness. She was the widow of Ike Messier, who operated an automobile repair shop and wrecker service here for many years Mrs. Messier was born March 10, 1897, in Fort Scott, KY., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Covert. She attended a small country school. completing the eighth grade. In 1913, she moved to Montana with her parents, who homesteaded near Valentine. Ruth and Ike Messier were married Feb 1, 1917, in Lewistown. and made their home here since, except for two years in the 1050’s when they lived in Tacoma, WA. He preceded her in death in 1971. Mrs. Messier was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church and Anchor Rebekah Lodge. Her hobbies were reading, crocheting, gardening and ceramics. She enjoyed helping her neighbors and calling on shut-ins. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Roberta Donovan of Lewistown and Mrs. Mary Daley of Missoula; one sister, Mrs. Eugenia Ward of Kansas City, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Aron Messier, in 1920. Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Lewistown with Rev. Daniel Wanders officiating. Burial will be in the Lewistown City Cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family prefers memorials to the Central Montana Hospital.
