Smith, 86, Spokane, Wash., and formerly of Lewistown, died early Friday morning in a Spokane Hospital following a short illness. She was born May 12, 1898 in Austria, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Weiss. She received her early education in Canada and continued her education in Lewistown. June 24, 1920, she was united in marriage to Ralph E. Smith in Lewistown. They made their home in Lewistown, where her husband was employed at the Democratic News and later the News Argus. They lived in Lewistown until his death in July of 1981. She continued to live in Lewistown until l983, when she moved to Spokane to be with her daughter. She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, the Eagles Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and the World War I Auxiliary, all of Lewistown. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister. Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, Emmett J. of Missoula and Thomas G. of Seattle, Wash.: one daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Betty Jane) Neel of Spokane, WA; l0 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the Cloyd Chapel with Father Steve Tokarski of St. Lee's Catholic Church officiating, and interment to follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lewistown.
