Swanson, 88, of Lewistown, died at the home of his daughter in Roy Wednesday, Sept. 26, morning after a brief illness. Swanson was born Oct. 8, 1895, at North Mankato, MN., the son of Charles and Agda Swanson. He received his schooling at North Mankato and spent his early life there. In 1911, he moved with his parents to Montana and homesteaded near Novary, in the Cheadle area. In 1918 he entered the service serving with the Army in World War One. After his discharge, Swanson lived in Minneapolis, MN. for a time before moving back to Montana and settling in Lewistown where he had made his home until the time of his death. He was employed by the Lewistown Elks Club for 21 years. March 17, 1931,he married Mildred Hanson in Great Falls. She preceded him in death in 1972. Swanson was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 456, the Eagles Lodge No. 374, and the American Legion all of Lewistown. He is survived by two daughters, Janet Rife of Roy and Erlys Bartels of Miles City; one brother, Clifford Swanson of Livingston grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one grandchild in addition to his wife. Funeral services for Swanson were from the Cloyd Chapel Friday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. with internment followed in the veterans section of the Lewistown City Cemetery. Military honors at grave side were given by Fergus Post No. 16 of the American Legion. Friends wishing to do so may make memorials to the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch, and may be left at the Funeral Home. Rev. Harold Dover officiated. Barbara Harchenko played the organ. Musical selections included, "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" and "Green, Green Grass of Home." The pallbearers were: Don Cramer. Al Gates, Al Heckford, C.F. Jacklin, Neal Smith and Pete Tuss.
