She was a native of Germany, having been born at Waldech, a little village near Coblenz on the Rhine, on June 6, 1836. She came to America when 18 yeras of age. For a time she resided at Aurora, Ill., later moving to St. Louis, where in 1859 whe was married to Paul Weydert, whom she survived by 23 years. When the party composing the train that was to make the long journey westward left Minnesota, Peter Weydert, the third child, was less than six weeks old, the two children previously born having died. The journey across the plains occupied four months and was filled with hardship, as were the years following in a country altogether new and undeveloped. But the spirit of courage and fortitude which characterized the pioneers was strong within the heart of Mary Weydert. The same spirit pervaded her life to its close, and she never knew what it was to give up until she surrendered to death. At the time of her passing was was 87 years and seven months old. She was the youngest member of a family of seven. In 1882 Mrs. Weydert and family removed to the Judith Basin from Helena and resided for many years on a ranch one and one-half miles west of Lewistown. For the past 13 years she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. George J. Wiedeman.
