Gallatin Gateway Cemetery-Salesville The following information was obtained from a booklet titled "Old Tombstone Records in Gallatin County, Montana Cemeteries 1957. It was compiled in 1955-1956 and 1957 by the Montana Hyalite Chapter Daughters of American Revolution. I was kindly given permission to transcribe their records and submit them for free public use. From Court House Records: On May 31, 1904, Mrs Jennie C Lay, a widow of Buna Vista, Penn, sold to Charles W Overstreet, George W Carter, J J Tomlinson of Gallatin County (for sum of $200.00) and to their successors to hold said premises for use and benefit of residents of Salesville (Gallatin Gateway) Gallatin County, Montana and residents of that vicinity and surrounding country for a burial ground and to make such regulations as may seem proper. Survivors to make succeeding choice or District Court to approve successors. Gallatin Gateway Cemetery, formerly Salesville, is about 2 miles North of Gallatin Gateway. It is one of the oldest cemeteries in county. This agricultural and cattle shipping center was originally named Salesville for Zachariah Sales who settled there in 1865 and operated a saw mill for logs floated down the West Gallatin. The name was changed in 1927 when it became home of Milwaukee Railroads Gallatin Gateway Inn and starting point for trips by bus through Yellowstone National Park.
