Springhill Cemetery The following information was obtained from a booklet titled "Old Tombstone Records in Gallatin County, Montana Cemeteries 1957. It was compiled in 1955-1956 and 1957 by the Montana Hyalite Chapter Daughters of American Revolution. I was kindly given permission to transcribe their records and submit them for free public use. Orvis W Smith to Springhill Cemetery Assoc. 2 acres more or less. Orvis W Smith and Nannie E Smith to Springhill Cemetery for $200.00. No water or water rights conveyed to said land. This cemetery is about 1/2 mile from Springhill Church. In 1865 the first sawmill in the valley was operated in Springhill district by Marshall Jones. In the summer of 1866 second Gallatin Valley flour mill was erected there. In 1871 a false report of gold caused Springhill to be established. At it's height it had 50 inhabitants, 2 flour mills, a furniture factory, distillery, black smith shop, church, and a school. Springhill is located North of Bozeman on rich hill land at base of mountains.
