EDWARD "ED" McGONE Born: he was born about 1880. Place: Died: Place: Occupation: Miner and part owner of the Mary Anderson Mine at Garnet, Montana. Married: he was married to Jennie McGone prior to October 4, 1902. Children: None. He and his partner Henry Grant were owners of the Mary Anderson Mine at Garnet. Following Henry's death about 1900 he operated the mine alone and began to sell of various claims in the Garnet area. On March 30, 1900 Edward Magone and Thomas W. Anderson by Bargain and Sale Deed sold a M&G tract containing 0.041 acres to the Granite Miners Union. Minerals were reerved to the grantors with covenants reqarding how the minerals could be developed. This tract lies west of Building No. 1, the Wells Hotel. On April 18, 1900 the Mary Anderson Lode Claim was patented from the United States to Edward McGone and Thomas W. Anderson. On August 8, 1900 by Mining Deed, Edward Magone and T.W. Anderson sold a tract of 100 feet square lying in the southeast corner of the Mary Anderson Lode to a Robert Moore. A copy of this deed is on file. On October 4, 1902 Edward Magone, Thomas W. Anderson and Jennie A. Magone by quitclaim deed conveyed part of the Mary Anderson Lode (50' X 78') to Frank A. Davey. Between 1900 and 1910 he became partners with Henry Grant's nephew Arthur A. Grant. Ed McGone sold his interest in the property to Arthur Grant. The property was then transferred to Arthur's grandson, A. Gordon Grant, Junior. This claim made up an important portion of the town of Garnet. The Grant Family presented the claims to the Garnet Preservation Association to preserve what buildings remain. Bibliography: Grant, A.
