THE RILEY RITCHEY FAMILY Born: Place: Died: Place: Occupation: Riley Ritchey owned a dairy near the lower end of Garnet, Montana. They owned a ranch 6 miles from Garnet. He delivered milk and butter to customers. He later sold the ranch and took up mining. Married: he married Children: 1) Will Ritchey 2) Eva Ritchey 3) Claude Ritchey 4) Olive Ritchey (Hart) she started school in 1903 at the Garnet School. 5) Samuel "Sam" Riley Ritchey 6) Theodore Ritchey Samuel Ritchey was his uncle. Riley Ritchey did not spend much time in the Saloons but was home with his family. The older children, father and mother took turns reading aloud from the Youth's Companion, The Sunset Magazine and even Uncle Tom's Cabin. Sometimes they played cards. Olive was never interested in cards and seldom played. Della and Leonard Hall were the children's best friends. They raised chickens for meat and eggs. Their was no fenced pastures for their cows so they were left to roam at will on the hillsides. They raised a large garden for vegetables. In 1901 they gave up their farm and sold their cattle.
