NELS AND LENA SEADIN FAMILY Nels Seadin: Born: September 1874. Place: Sweden. Died: 1939. Place: his family took him from Garnet to the hospital in Missoula, Missoula County, Montana where he died. Lena Johnson: Born: she was born in July 1872. Place: Sweden. Died: she passed away in 1954. Place: Butte, Silverbow County, Montana. Occupation: Nels was a miner and postmaster in Garnet in the 1930's until the time of his death in 1939. Married: Nels and Lena met and married in Wallace, Idaho. Children: Nels and Lena had six children. 1) Mildred Seadin (Driggers) Born: November 26, 1901. Place: probably Wallace, Idaho. Died: Place: Married: She married Mr. Driggers of Anaconda, Montana. 2) Tor (Tur) Seadin Born: 1903. Place: probably Wallace, Idaho. Died: before 1936. Place: Butte, Silverbow County, Montana. He died in a mining accident in the Butte mines. Occupation: He was a miner. His photograph is shown with other miners working at the Grant- Hartford Mine near Garnet, Montana in 1926. 3) Elsie Seadin Born: 1905 Place: Coloma, Missoula County, Montana Died: December 23, 1962 Place: Reno, Nevada Occupation: Elsie was a school teacher in Garnet. Married: 4) Walter Seadin Born: 1908 Place: Garnet, Granite County, Montana Died: 1959. Place: Occupation: Miner. 5) Margaret Seadin Born: 1910. Place: Garnet, Granite County, Montana. Died: 1937 Place: Garnet, Granite County, Montana at the house of her grandparents. 6) Robert George Seadin Born: 1915. Place: probably Garnet, Granite County, Montana. Died: January 4, 1968. Place: Galan State Hospital, Warm Spring, Montana. He was cremated and his ashes spread around his former house at Garnet, Granite County, Montana. Occupation: He was a miner working at the McDonald Mine earning $5.00 per day. When he earned enough money he started leasing mines an working them with his brother Walter and Dick Heard. In these days, there were no safety standards for miners. Miners worked without air filters and as in the case of Robert Seadin, they would get silicous and emphysema. Robert hunted wild game to provide meat for the family. Robert and Elsie left Garnet in 1941. Married: at 21 years of age, after a five month courtship Robert married Elsie Margaret Craddock in Missoula, Missoula County, Montana on November 4, 1936. The settled in a one room house at Garnet. Elsie joined in the ladies entertainment of bridge and Garnet sewing club. They were divorced in 1952. She remarried to a Mr. Fleming. Children: 1) Gary Robert Seadin Born: November 17, 1937. Place: Garnet, Granite County, Montana. Died: Place: 2) Carol Ann Seadin Born: July, 10, 1939. Place: Garnet, Granite County, Montana. Died: Place: 3) Sharon Seadin (Baldwin) Born: after 1941. Place: Died: Place: Nels and Nena Seadin were both born in Sweden moving to Garnet in 1905. Nels was a miner and for a short time near the end of his life postmaster in Garnet. In 1927 they lived in the old Adams house. During the years 1905 to about 1929 moves were made from Garnet to Mullin, Idaho, from Idaho back to Garnet then to Philipsburg back to Garnet and to Coloma at one time and back to Garnet. All their children went to school at some time in Garnet. In the winter, everyone would go skiing and sleigh riding. There were dances at the Hotel or at Short's Bar (later the Dahl house). The monthly shopping was in Missoula with some items bought at the general store in Garnet.
