"PETE" and PEARL SHIPLER Born: about 1880-1890. Place: Died: he passed away in the late 1950s. Place: Occupation: Pete Shipler was a miner at the Nancy Hanks Mine at Garnet, Montana. He also owned the Mountain View Mine. Married: He was married twice. 1st wife. Born: Place: Died: Place: probably Garnet, Granite County, Montana. She is buried at Sandpark Cemetery, Coloma, Missoula County, Montana. 2nd wife. His second wife was Pearl ? Shipler. Following his death she remarried to Mr. Lang. Born: Place: Died: Place: Children: None. His photograph is shown with other miners at the Nancy Hanks mine taken about 1900. On November 26, 1917 he located the Mountain view Claim Group southeast of Garnet near the Nancy Hanks Mine. When gold went to $35.00 per ounce he constructed the Majestic Millsite on May 28, 1934. He held these claims until his death in the late 1940's. His wife Pearl Shipler of Deer Lodge held the claims until May 26, 1961 when she sold half interest to Margaret L. Day of Drummond. In 1962 the claims later became the property of John W. Kohr. He was known for cleaning the floor of his cabin everyday with lye every day. He was fanatical about keeping his cabin clean. It was said that he was the best house keeper for miles around and put the wives in Garnet to shame. Following his first wife's death he lived by himself. Pete remarried to Pearl and died soon after.
