In 1910, however, a little building, which in later years became the Tribune printing office, was utilized for school purposes. Instruction was given here for two years, but in the meantime the population grew, and more room was needed for housing the pupils. In the year 1912, a two-room structure, which is now the lower story of the present building, was built, This was completed in December, but school was not begun until the first of the new year, 1913. In 1914, the school officials advertised for bids to enlarge the school building to its present size. This was done, and from that time on there were two years of high school, in addition to the grammar grades. No improvements were made in the school nor in the school building for many years, but in the fall of 1923 the high school was enlarged to include three years of work, and the following year a course in all four years was given. There were just four students in the first class which graduated from Gildford High (1925): Alice and Paul Goller and Lyle and Ivan Beeson. Graduation exercises were held in the hall above what is now the "Gildford Grain and Trading Co." store. The commencement speaker was E. J. Klemme, of the Intermountain Union college at Helena. In 1926 and 1927 there were again only three years of work offered here, but the following fall four years were once more added, and this school became fully accredited. New improvements were made; a small building was moved in from north of town for the use of the seventh and eighth grades. This left the entire upstairs of the main building for the high school. In the spring of 1928, the following were graduated: Forest Browning, Mary Gillet, Martha Sprague and Hortense Stephenson. Dr. Klemme was again the commencement speaker, and the exercises were held in Moore's hall. During the next summer the high school building was remodeled considerably. A typing room was built in, and the office was converted into a library. At the beginning of the 1928 school term, the attendance was larger than it had been for some time, but there were only four in the graduation class: Edna Crites, Irene Penniwell, Bonnie Mundhenk and Paul Stephenson. the commencement exervises were held in Moore's hall, with Dr. W. H. Spencer of Billings delivering the principal address. This year the grades had to be divided again, due to lack of room and the fifth and sixth grades were moved to the old post-office building, another teacher being hired to instruct them. 1930 marks the fourth year of graduation classes from Gildford High School. There are only two seniors this year, Belva McKown and Marie Kurtz, but we hope to have more next year. FACULTY: Mr. E. T.
