DOUGHERTY - pg 1181 From Leeson's History of Montana 1739-1885 published 1885 SURNAMES FOUND IN THIS BIOGRAPHY: KANE; CLARK J. E. Dougherty, Radersburg, is a native of Canada; was born at Perth; Lanark Co., Ontario, in 1841, and came to the United States when about 14 years of age. he returned to Canada, and after receiving a good common school education he taught near Ottawa for four years, and was also engaged in the grocery business for a time. In 1870 he came to Montana, and after remaining here for one year, located on Crow Creek, near Radersburg, where he has since enjoyed a large trade. Mr. Dougherty was married to Miss Eliza Jane Clark, a native of Wisconsin, February 7, 1875,, and has two children: john and Mary. Edward and Maria (Kane) Dougherty, his parents, emigrated to America in 1812, but are now both deceased, having died in Canada about four years ago. By occupation the father was a saddle and harness maker. Mr. Dougherty has been fortunate in business since coming to the Territory, having accumulated considerable property, though beginning with very limited capital. At present his possessions chiefly consist of a dry goods store near Radersburg; also a farm of 580 acres, fairly improved, with good house and outbuildings.
