Entertainment Card Parties - Turkey Games A source of entertainment for the winter months held at various homes were card parties and turkey games, which was playing cards to raffle the turkeys off. The live turkeys were penned in an area close to the house and each winner would grab a bird as he left for home. Each winner hoped he was lucky enough to get the biggest and juiciest of the "birds". Judging from the sound effects--the protesting squawks of the turkeys when they were captured by their new owners--all of the birds were well endowed with excellent lungs and vocal cords, especially noticeable when put in gunny sacks for their journey to their new homes! These parties were always held around the holiday seasons. When the turkeys were all raffled off, various other card games were played. An elaborate lunch was prepared and served at midnight - also a few good drinks too. Dancing also was part of the entertainment. These parties usually went on all night until the wee hours of the morning. SUBMITTED BY MRS. MARY ELLEN MURPHY, MRS. MABEL MURPHY, AND MRS. PAUL T. SMITH
