THE FRANCIS RYAN FAMILY Francis Henry Ryan, the youngest of the Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ryan, pioneers of the Valley, was born in 1879. He attended school at the Finn School and later went to the academy in Salt Lake City, Utah. After finishing school, he returned to his father s ranch where he lived and worked for many years. On November 8, 1915, he married Jane LaMacy Murphy in Butte. Jane was a school teacher and was born and raised in Butte. After a honeymoon trip to California the couple returned to the ranch to make their home. To this happy couple six children were born: Edward Francis, September 23, 1916; John Eugene, August 23, 1917; Mary Jane, January 23, 1919; Helen Patricia, March 15, 1920; Marian Adele, April 25, 1921; and Elizabeth Anita, June 25, 1922. Edward and Mary ( Stribley ) Ryan have two children and live in Philipsburg. Russel and Mary Jan (Ryan) Tintinger live in Helena. They have three girls and three grandchildren. John and Helen (Ryan) McCarthy live in Helena with their three children. Joseph and Marian (Ryan) Davey and their four children live in Carmichael, California. John and Elizabeth (Betty Ryan) McGuire live in Riverton, Wyoming. They have four children and four grandchildren. Mrs. Ryan died in March, 1931. Mr. Ryan and the children continued to live on the ranch until it was sold to Ed and Mabel Murphy. Mr. Ryan died in Boulder in 1947. SUBMITTED BY MRS. MARIE PARADIS SWARTZ
