GIBBINGS - pg 1182 From Leeson's History of Montana 1739-1885 published 1885 SURNAMES FOUND IN THIS BIOGRAPHY: DUGAN William R. Gibbings, Basin City, is a son of Thomas and Catherine (Dugan) Gibbings, and was born in the City of Cork, Ireland. He came to San Francisco in 1854, then went to Trinity, where he followed the occupation of mining until 1862. He then joined Capt. Connor's command and was one of his chief scouts until 1866. At this time he came into the territory of Montana and has since worked in Alder Gulch, Idaho and Salmon City mines. In 1881 he came to Basin, where he is now interested in the Kit Carson mine and superintendent of the works, also having prospects of his own. He has twice been wounded by shots from the Indians. In the charge at Humboldt Springs his horse stumbled, and falling upon him dislocated his wrist and broke his collar bone.
