Harvey, Clancy, widow of the late Silas S. Harvey, was born in Warren Co., N. J. on March 20, 1840, and was married to Mr. Harvey at Hackettstown, N. J., in 1856. Mr. Harvey was a gentleman of undoubted ability, and before coming to the Territory was engaged in New Jersey as a merchant, dealing in coal and lumber and brewing. He was also general freight agent for the Morris Canal Company for a period of twelve years. He came to the Territory in 1867 and took charge of the Diamond City Mining Company's Works, they disbanding in 1870. He with a partner then purchased a mill and opened a mine of their own, at which they worked until Mr. Harvey's death, which occurred May 7, 1879. Mr. Harvey was also engaged in stock raising, ranching, etc. Mrs. Harvey lost about 500 head of cattle during the winter of 1880-81. She still has a fine herd, however, and about 100 head of horses, among which is the noted horse Black Diamond, and a number of valuable trotting mares.
