MCCAULEY - pg 1184 From Leeson's History of Montana 1739-1885 published 1885 SURNAMES FOUND IN THIS BIOGRAPHY: ENGELL Jno. G. McCauley, Clancy, son of Patrick and Elizabeth (Engell) McCauley, was born at Carlisle, Cumberland Co., Pa., January 29, 1826. He remained with his parents until 23 years of age, and in February, 1849, started for California via New Orleans and Mexico. He engaged in mining in Mariposa Co., Cal., in Bull Canon, in Eldorado county, In Volcano, Amador county, and Wood House, Calaveras county, where he worked in the first quartz mill erected in California; again at Eldorado, in Nevada county, and at Marysville until May 1866, when he cam to Montana and engaged in mining at Helena. From 1868 to 1879 he worked in the mines at Basin, and in the latter year bought the ranch where he now lives. Having mines upon his ranch he devotes a part of his time to his old occupation.
